The team provides opportunities to build deeper expertise in specific services while developing broader knowledge across related technologies and applications.\nResponsible at the proficient level for writing code and the teams' technical requirements gathering. Completes work following banking technology standards and contributes to the overall stability and resiliency of banking technology within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).\nPrimary Responsibilities\nWork within the boundaries of the approved Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to solve business needs and minimize risks to the Bank through clean and resilient code with guidance as needed.\nDevelop, enhance, and support backend applications, APIs, and services supporting the Bank's enterprise API ecosystem.\nDevelop and support Java-based applications and services using Spring Boot.\nBuild and enhance API-driven solutions and integrations that enable communication between applications and downstream systems.\nProvide feedback in pull requests to other team members.\nParticipate in code review by presenting and providing constructive feedback on code quality and improvements with team members.\nWrite organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code at proficient level in minimum of one programming language to be verified by a senior team member.\nUtilize source control management tools to organize and maintain code with review from manager for structure and conflict resolution.\nJointly analyze technical and business requirements for completeness, accuracy, and feasibility with senior team members to ensure accurate scoping of work.\nTroubleshoot and support backend applications, APIs, services, and related technology components across development and production environments.\nCollaborate, document, and communicate technical implementation details clearly and concisely within team on dependent requirements as needed.\nContribute to application modernization efforts, including the transition and evolution of existing services toward cloud technologies.\nCollaborate with technical teams and partners across the Bank to support integrated applications and services.\nParticipate in continuous learning and innovation opportunities, including exposure to emerging technologies and AI-assisted development tools.\nUnderstand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.\nPromote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.\nMaintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.\nComplete other related duties as assigned.\nScope of Responsibilities\nWorks as part of a collaborative software engineering environment supporting applications and services within API Services. Develops proficiency in assigned services and technologies while building broader knowledge across related applications, APIs, and integrated systems.\nSupervisory/Managerial Responsibilities\nNo supervisory responsibilities.\nEducation and Experience Required\nAssociate's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ systems analysis and/ or application development work experience OR Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years’ education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of systems analysis and/or application development work experience\nProfessional proficiency in a minimum of 1 relevant programming language.\nExperience with Java or a comparable object-oriented programming language.\nExperience with Spring Boot or a comparable application development framework.\nExperience developing or supporting backend applications, APIs, or services.\nExperience with cloud technologies or cloud-based application environments.\nEducation and Experience Preferred\nA minimum of 3 years of Java development experience.\nA minimum of 3 years of Spring Boot development experience.\nMicrosoft Azure experience.\nExperience developing or supporting RESTful APIs and API-driven applications.\nBackend software development experience.\nExperience with cloud application development, cloud migration, or application modernization.\nExperience supporting applications or services that integrate with multiple systems.\nExperience troubleshooting application, API, or service-related issues.\nExperience with C#/.NET or another programming language and application development framework.\nExperience working in a collaborative team environment.\nExperience with AI-assisted software development tools.\nBasic analytical skills specific to application development.\nStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work through unfamiliar or ambiguous technical problems.\nAbility and willingness to learn new technologies and apply new skills in a development environment.\nAbility to work autonomously.\nAbility to multitask on moderately complex projects.\nStrong organizational skills.\nStrong time management skills.\nProficient verbal and written communication skills.\nM&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $80,900.00 - $134,800.00 Annual (USD).
