The role guides architecture and design decisions, establishes engineering standards, mentor engineers, helps resolve complex technical challenges, and ensures solutions are secure, scalable, supportable, and aligned with M&T technology standards.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Leadership & Solution Design\nProvide technical leadership for KYC and BSA/AML applications, data platforms, integrations, and services.\nApply technical expertise within Know Your Customer (KYC) and Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) technology environments.\nProvide technical leadership for.NET application development, services, APIs, and microservices.\nLead the design, development, and optimization of SSIS-based data integration solutions, SQL Server Databases and enterprise data pipelines.\nTranslate business, regulatory, and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions.\nGuide solution design and implementation, evaluate technical approaches and clearly communicate trade-offs involving performance, scalability, maintainability, security, resiliency, and complexity.\nPartner with enterprise Architecture, infrastructure/platform teams, Product Owners, and other Leads on solutions and dependencies that span multiple teams.\nConduct and guide architecture, design, and code reviews for complex changes.\nMentor developers in modern development practices and service-oriented architecture.\nEstablish and enforce appropriate code-review, branching, testing, and deployment practices.\nDrive improvements in automated testing, code quality, technical documentation, and engineering controls.\nProactively identify and manage technical debt.\nDemonstrate proficiency with AI-assisted development tools and promote their responsible use across the software-development lifecycle.\nIdentify opportunities and apply AI tools where appropriate to accelerate software development, unit-test development, troubleshooting, code analysis, and technical documentation.\nLead investigation and resolution of complex issues across application components in production and other environments including root-cause analysis and performance optimization.\nIdentify opportunities and provide technical leadership to simplify legacy implementations, reduce operational risk, and improve maintainability.\nWork with engineering and support teams to strengthen application resiliency, monitoring, recoverability, and operational readiness.\nEducation and Experience Required:\nA combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ engineering and/or architecture experience and 3 years leadership experience\n.NET / C# development\nSSIS development and support\nSQL Server\nREST APIs and microservices\nAdvanced SQL development and SQL performance tuning\nApplication and system integration\nGitLab\nCI/CD pipelines\nSAST/DAST vulnerability remediation\nAutomated testing and engineering-quality practices\nAI-assisted software development, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation\nProduction troubleshooting and root-cause analysis\nApplication and database performance optimization\nExperience implementing & supporting KYC and/or BSA/AML technology\nEducation and Experience Preferred:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.\nFinancial-services technology experience, with KYC/BSA/AML experience.\nStrong software engineering and solution-design experience.\nDemonstrated technical leadership of engineering teams or complex technical initiatives.\nStrong experience in mentoring and developing engineers/teams.\nExperience designing and integrating applications using established architecture principles and patterns.\nStrong experience across application, database, API, and data-integration technologies.\nAbility to research complex technical issues, evaluate multiple approaches, and clearly articulate recommendations and trade-offs.\nStrong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, architecture, product, business, risk, and management stakeholders.\nExperience working in an Agile engineering environment.\nM&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $116,400.00 - $194,000.00 Annual (USD).
