You will report directly to the Software Development Manager and will be responsible for setting the technological direction for a major platform as the company aims to build on its new generation products.\nThe role requires strong people skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger multi-disciplined team. Collaboration with an international Linux platform development team will be essential to ensure the future success of the product.\nThe role will involve working with the latest tools and technologies.\nWhat You'll Do\nProvide technical leadership, advice and guidance to the development team (who are currently developing for a Windows environment) on developing for Linux.\nLiaise with dedicated remote platform development team to ensure platform developments align with application development requirements.\nEnsure application development team are kept up to date with platform developments.\nWork closely and collaboratively with the applications team leader and other team members to develop the platform architecture and application to work on, and take advantage of, a Debian-based Linux platform.\nElicit requirements from key stakeholders, generate software requirements and technical specification documents, seek clarification as and where necessary.\nCreate and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates & techniques.\nMaintain watching brief on development of new technologies, techniques and methodologies. \nIdentify and correct reported defects in collaboration with the Software Test Team.\nWhat You Need to Succeed\nEssential:\nBachelor's degree in electronics, physics or another relevant engineering related degree.\nExperience of developing object-oriented applications using a C-like language, ideally C++, C# or Java.\nExperience in developing for embedded Linux systems.\nKnowledge of system architecture design.\nGood interpersonal and communication skills.\nNice to have:\nExperience of developing for a resource-constrained embedded platform.\nExperience of developing multi-component applications.\nUtilising git version control.\nAbility to travel as individual projects may necessitate (with notice, likely to be minimal and infrequent)\nDo you feel you meet 70-80% of these criteria?
