You'll work across the full firmware lifecycle, from requirements capture and development through to hardware integration, validation, regression testing and release. The role would suit an engineer with strong C/C++ skills, experience of STM32 or similar microcontrollers, and a passion for solving complex hardware-software integration challenges.\nThis role offers a flexible hybrid working pattern, with only two days a week required on site at our Dorset office. You’ll have the freedom to balance remote work with in-person collaboration, all within a supportive team that values a healthy work life balance.\nResponsibilities:\nDefine firmware requirements and plan implementation.\nDesign, develop, test and review embedded firmware across multiple platforms, including firmware migration and software release activities.\nSupport firmware update mechanisms, bootloaders and software deployment strategies.\nIntegrate and test firmware with hardware and wider system components, supporting board-level debugging, validation and verification activities.\nTake part in stand-ups and planning sessions.\nPerform regression testing and contribute to continuous integration improvements to maintain software quality.\nSkills & Experience:\nStrong C or C++ programming skills in embedded environments.\nExperience developing firmware for STM32, TI or similar microcontrollers and working with RTOS environments.\nUnderstanding of hardware schematics and interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART and CAN.\nConfident with firmware and hardware integration and debugging (STM, TI, Keil, Code Composer Studio).\nAble to gather, understand and break down requirements into clear features.\nGood communication and teamwork skills.\nDesirable skills:\nFamiliarity with Git, GitLab, Jira and Confluence.\nExperience with branching strategies and technical documentation.\nExperience troubleshooting embedded hardware systems and PCB-based products.\nThis is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful engineering that improves cities and towns infrastructure, enhances safety, and supports environmentally responsible systems.\nAbout Peregrine\nWe build workforces that deliver tech and change programmes at leading UK organisations.
