Together, we thrive, push our limits, and work as team to help you reach your full potential.\nWhy This Role Matters\nThe On-Call Transportation Accessibility Specialist (will be called an On- Call Mobility Assessment Evaluator or MAE per the contract), will help ensure individuals with disabilities and older adults receive fair, accurate, and timely ADA paratransit eligibility determinations, while also supporting independence and appropriate use of fixed-route public transportation whenever possible.\nThis role is intentionally designed to attract professionals from clinical disciplines and social-services or human-services backgrounds. Whether your strengths lie in functional assessment, clinical observation, interviewing, advocacy, or structured decision-making, your work will directly shape equitable mobility outcomes.\nThis position is located at WMATA Transit Accessibility Center at 300 7th St SW Washington, DC 20024.\nWho This Role Is For:\nClinical or Rehabilitation Professional (OT, PT, COTA, rehab, healthcare-adjacent)\n\nYou value objective functional assessment and defensible decision-making\n\nYou want to apply clinical judgment outside traditional care settings\n\nYou’re interested in systems-level impact and community accessibility\n\nSocial Services or Human Services Professional (Social services, disability services, case management, advocacy)\n\nYou thrive in people-centered, equity-driven work\n\nYou bring strong interviewing, listening, and observational skills\n\nYou are comfortable working within structured eligibility and regulatory frameworks\n\nWhat you’ll do:\nAssess & Determine Transportation Access\nConduct in-person interviews and functional assessments with applicants\n\nReview ADA paratransit applications, intake forms, and professional verification materials\n\nDetermine required functional assessments and evaluate results\n\nApply observations and assessment findings to ADA eligibility determinations\n\nAssess applicants’ ability to independently use fixed-route public transportation\n\nMake final eligibility determinations in compliance with ADA regulations and contract standards\n\nConduct Functional Assessments\nAssessments may include:\nOutdoor and indoor physical functional assessments\n\nCognitive and observational assessments (e.g., FACTS, MMSE)\n\nStandardized tools administered according to established protocols\n\nDocument, Communicate & Defend Decisions\nProduce timely, accurate written eligibility determinations within ADA-mandated timeframes\n\nMaintain complete documentation supporting eligibility decisions and appeals\n\nEnter and manage applicant data in Client systems (including Trapeze)\n\nParticipate in appeals processes by clearly articulating decision rationale\n\nProvide additional written documentation to Clients upon request\n\nCollaborate & Improve\nPartner with MTM leadership and Client teams to identify process improvement opportunities\n\nParticipate in staff meetings, trainings, and Client collaboration sessions\n\nSupport community outreach and education initiatives as needed\n\nMaintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times\n\nDeliver High-Quality Human Service\nBuild rapport with applicants, caregivers, and support staff\n\nCommunicate respectfully, clearly, and compassionately with diverse populations\n\nMaintain a positive, professional presence in all interactions\n\nWhat you’ll need:\nExperience, Education & Certifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Social Services, Rehabilitation, Healthcare, or a related field\n\n3+ years of professional experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or older adults\n\nRelated experience with regard to the functional assessment of individuals with disabilities along with experience working with individuals with disabilities\n\nExperience documenting decisions within regulated or compliance-driven programs\n\nExperience with ADA programs, eligibility determination, &/or public benefits\n\nSkills:\nStrong interviewing, assessment, and observational skills\n\nKnowledge of or ability to develop expertise in ADA complementary paratransit eligibility regulations\n\nAbility to administer standardized evaluation tools consistently and accurately\n\nClear written communication for reports and eligibility determination letters\n\nIntermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)\n\nStrong organizational and multi-tasking abilities\n\nAbility to work independently with limited supervision\n\nHigh standards for confidentiality and data integrity\n\nAdditional language skills are a plus\n\nEven better if you have...\nKnowledge of public transportation systems preferred\n\nOT, PT, or COTA certification or licensure, preferred\n\n5+ years of post-licensure clinical experience, preferred\n\nCPR and First Aid certification, preferred\n\nPossess a continuously valid US driver’s license, preferred\n\nMin Salary: $25/hr\nMax Salary: $25/hr\nThis information reflects the base salary pay range for this job based on current national market data.
