While we prefer candidates located in these hubs for occasional meetings and team collaboration, we are open to remote team members who can travel periodically if needed.\nTo support our team, we offer:\nCommuter benefits to ease your travel\n\nLunches and snacks to keep you fueled\n\nA collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company\n\nExpectations (In this role, you will):\nOwn and evolve fraud strategies across Mudflap’s payments products, including fleet card and legacy payment products\n\nIdentify emerging fraud patterns and translate insights into scalable rules, controls, and policies\n\nPartner with Data Science to develop, evaluate, and improve fraud detection models\n\nUse SQL, Python, and advanced analytics to uncover fraud trends, vulnerabilities, and opportunities\n\nDefine fraud KPIs, loss thresholds, and monitoring frameworks tied to risk appetite and unit economics\n\nBuild dashboards and reporting that surface emerging risks and measure strategy effectiveness\n\nPartner with Product and Engineering to embed fraud controls into new products and customer experiences\n\nEvaluate and implement third-party fraud tools, data sources, and detection capabilities\n\nDevelop fraud strategies that enable safe expansion into new payment rails, including ACH\n\nBalance fraud prevention, customer friction, growth, and profitability as Mudflap scales\n\nExperience (What we look for):\n5+ years of experience in fraud strategy, risk, or payments, ideally within fintech or a high-volume payments business\n\nHands-on experience developing and optimizing fraud strategies, including rules, controls, monitoring, and loss management\n\nStrong analytical skills with advanced SQL; proficiency with Python and spreadsheets preferred\n\nExperience analyzing transaction data to identify fraud patterns, vulnerabilities, and root causes\n\nStrong judgment balancing fraud loss, customer friction, growth, and profitability\n\nExperience partnering with Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Operations to implement fraud solutions\n\nFamiliarity with card payments, ACH, digital payments, or other complex payment ecosystems\n\nAbility to turn ambiguous data into clear recommendations and action\n\nHigh ownership, curiosity, and comfort operating in a fast-changing environment\n\nPerks and Benefits (What we offer):\nCompetitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup\n\nMultiple health benefit options\n\nResponsible Time Off\n\n401(k) matching\n\nOpportunities and support for major career growth\n\nAnnual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)\n\nThe base salary range for this role is $135,000 - $185,000.
