Munich Re is a German reinsurance and insurance group headquartered in Munich, providing reinsurance, primary insurance and insurance-related risk solutions to clients worldwide. Founded in 1880 and listed in the DAX, it is the largest reinsurer in the world, and its group includes the primary insurer ERGO, the asset manager MEAG, Hartford Steam Boiler, Munich Re Specialty and Munich Reinsurance America. Recent openings span treaty and liability underwriters, technical accountants, financial risk analysts, credit controllers, software engineers and interns, as well as insurance sales apprentices and agents for ERGO in Germany.

In the Division Reinsurance Controlling (RIC), the responsibilities of controlling and management reporting are bundled together to ensure a uniform controlling process. RIC1.4 acts as the Global Process Owner for expenses and is responsible for Non-IT budgeting and cost allocation processes. RIC1.4.2 is in charge to provide all relevant information and analytics to senior management, especially the Reinsurance and Group CFO as well as neighboring finance functions, to steer the expense base in the business field reinsurance from a legal entity and IFRS point of view. This especially includes the translation of the primary cost planning into an allocated and IFRS basis and the driving the quarterly closing and monitoring process for expenses under IFRS to inform internal result steering as well as external communication. Besides, various ad hoc analysis and presentations need to be informed. Due to the numerous interfaces especially including all international entities of the reinsurance and specialty group, the unit provides an excellent overview on the reinsurance group’s total expense and financial situation.

We are looking for a highly motivated and committed colleague that supports the head of section especially in the preparation of the quarterly closing meetings of the reinsurance and specialty group with cross-functional analysis.

Your Job

  • Support the Head of Section and Head of Department in preparing senior management meetings by proactively analysing IFRS expense plan and actual figures across legal entities and line items, and consolidating quantitative analyses into qualitative key messages and the “story of the quarter”
  • Prepare well-structured, in-depth materials and presentations with the team for planning and quarterly forecast discussions.
  • Take responsibility for planning and monitoring processes for selected legal entities, and serve as the point of contact for finance departments in international entities regarding IFRS expenses.
  • Support the team in advancing the automation, digitalisation and harmonisation of systems and tools.
  • Support the Head of Section in the continuous development of expense-controlling methods.

Your Profile

  • University degree in economics, business administration or a comparable field, with above-average results
  • Several years of controlling experience, with a strong focus on cost management; experience in primary insurance or reinsurance is an advantage
  • Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive and structured approach to work
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, combined with the ability to derive key messages from detailed information
  • Strong communication skills and a confident, professional presence
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Very good command of English and strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with SAP CO, EDWH and ECON reporting is an advantage
