We believe that by aligning our single risk business in one unified team we will better position Munich Re to provide a holistic suite of products and services that meet the growing demands of our clients and broker partners.\nThe Opportunity\nFuture focused and always one step ahead!\nWith this opportunity, your primary responsibility will be underwriting Property facultative individual risk business in the US. Facultative Underwriters are responsible for risk analysis and assessment, coverage evaluation, pricing and marketing to assigned brokers and clients. This position will lead or assist in negotiations in order to maintain and develop a profitable facultative reinsurance portfolio.\nResponsibilities:\nIndependently underwrite and price moderate to highly complex business in accordance with corporate, divisional and department guidelines and philosophy.\nProduce, underwrite, and manage the book of business in compliance with applicable underwriting guidelines, strategies, and best practices\nPerform the underwriting referral function as specified and as required in the underwriting guidelines and mandates\nHelp refine and implement our portfolio strategy. Ensure high-quality underwriting through coaching, mentoring, technical guidance, and frequent feedback.\nDevelop and maintain strong market presence by developing client and broker strategies.\nDevelop new business opportunities and promote Group’s capabilities and competencies externally in close cooperation with Client Management.\nEstablish and maintain sound contact with clients and brokers, keeping abreast of market and industry developments and client needs.\nDemonstrated superior negotiation skills, facilitating and managing the complexities and challenges associated with sourcing business.\nNegotiate and conclude the offers, terms of contract with Brokers/Clients and, when necessary and feasible, submit counter proposals.\nLead interdepartmental projects to develop and implement underwriting strategies\nStrong ability to lead a team technically by providing straight-forward, clear direction, guidance, and coaching.\nDemonstrate advanced proficiency in the use of pricing models and other risk evaluation models\nStrategic decision making based on data interpretation beyond models\nExcellent written and oral communication skills\nAble to adjust communication style to audience at all levels internally or externally\nOutstanding presentation skills, able to speak at professional seminars, panels, or workshops\nConduct and lead peer reviews of team members’ accounts\nBe a peer review resource to other distribution channels and Client Groups, providing underwriting expertise and input\nQualifications:\n10+ years of experience in (re)insurance, broker community and/ or corporate risk market\n5+ years of underwriting experience preferred\nBachelor’s Degree preferred advanced degree a plus or CPCU, Professional designations a plus\nSuperior Negotiation, Relationship Management and Marketing skills\nStrong computer skills.\nExcellent verbal/written language and communication skills.\nAbility to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally to collaborate with teams in London, Munich and globally.\nAbility to travel nationally and internationally - up to 30%\nThe Company is open to considering candidates in New York City (NY). The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Manhattan location.\nThe base salary range anticipated for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).\nThe salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in New York City. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
