You will lead a nimble team of engineers who own the entire Privacy.com product scope. The stack is primarily NodeJS and DocumentDB on AWS ECS Fargate. This is a player-coach role. We expect you to spend roughly a third of your time hands-on coding while growing the team and keeping it focused on the highest-impact work.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nLead and grow a team of engineers, owning performance, development, and overall team health\nStay hands-on, spending roughly a third of your time coding, reviewing designs, and unblocking the team\nEnsure high reliability and correctness across the Privacy.com product, including card processing\nOwn multi-month initiatives from planning to launch, partnering with engineers on architectural direction while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned\nPartner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements early and keep engineering time focused on the highest-impact work\nMake thoughtful tradeoffs between long-term platform investment and immediate product value\nRaise the bar on operational excellence: observability, incident response, and pragmatic reliability improvements\nLead efforts to improve systems, processes, and documentation so new team members can ramp quickly\nRecruit, hire, and retain strong engineering talent\nParticipate in and help evolve the team’s on-call rotation\nWhat You Bring:\nExperience managing and growing engineers, including coaching, feedback, and hiring\nStrong technical judgment and system design skills, especially for distributed systems and high-reliability production services\nComfort staying close to the work, with the ability to code, review designs, and unblock the team\nExperience shipping and operating production services, with a bias toward measurable reliability and pragmatic iteration\nExperience leading a team through large, multi-month projects while balancing long-term investment against near-term delivery\nExperience with NodeJS and AWS (or closely related stacks), and an ability to ramp quickly where the stack is unfamiliar\nStrong cross-functional communication skills and an ability to keep teams aligned under time pressure\nGrowth mindset and continuous desire to learn and improve\nAn interest in fintech and payments is preferred\nThe annual US salary range for this role is $169,000 - $265,000 plus equity.
