The ideal candidate is an analytical problem-solver with strong engineering fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and a passion for developing innovative solutions to complex mechanical challenges. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely.\nWHO WE ARE:\nNAC International is a global leader in nuclear fuel cycle management and consulting services. For more than 50 years, we have been at the forefront of nuclear innovation, delivering safe, sustainable, and forward-thinking solutions in fuel cycle technology and waste management. Our reputation is built on engineering excellence, strategic collaboration, and a strong commitment to solving complex challenges for clients around the world.\nABOUT THE ROLE:\nWorking alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will perform and document advanced applied mechanics evaluations supporting the design, licensing, qualification, and operation of radioactive material (e.g. high-level radioactive waste, used and fresh nuclear fuel, etc.) transportation, storage, transfer, and handling systems. Responsibilities include nonlinear transient analyses using the explicit finite element code LS-DYNA, structural evaluations using ANSYS, development of engineering methodologies, support of licensing activities with relevant competent authorities (e.g. US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), US Department of Energy, (DOE), Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), etc.), and technical interaction with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. Analyses are performed in accordance with applicable design specifications, quality assurance requirements, regulatory requirements, and industry codes and standards.\nWHAT YOU’LL OWN:\nYou will be responsible for developing and executing applied mechanics analyses; preparing calculation packages, technical reports, and licensing documentation; performing independent technical reviews of engineering work; supporting system design optimization and qualification; and maintaining complete and accurate engineering records. The position requires application of sound engineering judgment and effective communication of technical results to internal and external stakeholders. The Applied Mechanics Engineer is expected to independently plan, execute, document, and defend complex technical work while contributing to the development of engineering methodologies and best practices.\nWHAT YOU’LL DO:\nDevelop and execute applied mechanics analyses supporting the development, licensing, and deployment of nuclear transportation, storage, transfer, and handling systems.\nDevelop finite element models and analytical methodologies for structural and dynamic evaluations.\nPrepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and licensing documentation.\nSupport NRC licensing activities, including SAR development and regulatory responses.\nEvaluate designs for compliance with applicable requirements, codes, and standards.\nPerform verification, validation, benchmarking, and independent technical reviews.\nParticipate in design reviews and provide engineering recommendations.\nDevelop analysis automation tools, workflows, and process improvements.\nInterface with customers, regulators, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams on technical matters.\nProvide technical leadership, mentoring, and support for junior engineers.\nPerform other engineering duties as assigned.\nWHAT YOU’LL BRING:\nEducation\nMaster’s degree in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, or in a relevant engineering discipline required, Ph. D. preferred.\nExperience\nMinimum five (5) years of experience performing finite element analyses (Ansys preferred), including nonlinear simulations.\nMinimum three (3) years of demonstrated experience with explicit FEA using LS-DYNA.\nExperience in developing and evaluating finite element models for complex structural systems.\nExperience in supporting engineering design, qualification, or licensing activities within regulated industries.\nNuclear industry experience is preferred.\nTechnical Knowledge\nStrong understanding of solid mechanics, structural dynamics for both seismic and impact applications, finite element methods (both implicit and explicit), and engineering design principles.\nFamiliarity with ASME, ANSI, ASTM, AWS, AISC, and other related engineering codes and standards.\nFamiliarity with NRC regulations, guidance documents, and licensing processes is highly desirable.\nUnderstanding of engineering verification, validation, benchmarking, and quality assurance practices.\nSoftware Skills\nLS-DYNA required.\nLS-PrePost required.\nAnsys Mechanical / Mechanical APDL required.\nWHY NAC?\nAt NAC, we offer more than just a job - we offer a mission-driven career. Our team enjoys competitive compensation aligned with industry benchmarks, Company paid health insurance, long and short disability and life insurance, supplemental health insurance options, generous paid time off benefits, 11 paid holidays, 401k with employer matching contributions, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave and hybrid remote work flexibility.\nJoin us in shaping the future of nuclear energy. Apply today and become a part of a team that’s redefining what’s possible.\nNAC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
