Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our Mechanical Engineering Practice in Shanghai, China. In this role, you will be a part of multiple teams helping to solve a wide variety of mechanical and materials engineering issues relying on solid and structural mechanics, mechanical design, material analytical characterization, laboratory testing, and data analysis. You will be expected to grow in key aspects of consulting, including technical expertise and effective spoken and written communications, to develop a consulting practice serving clients within and outside the firm.
You will be responsible for
- Communicating effectively with other engineers and technicians, managers, clients, and administrative staff
- Conducting hands-on failure analysis
- Planning and executing mechanical design, customized laboratory testing, data acquisition, and data analysis
- Performing field inspections
- Conducting material analysis
- Assisting other practice groups within Exponent on as-needed basis, and supporting senior staff in project development and marketing
You will have the following skills and qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent with focused thesis, coursework, and project experience in mechanical design, solid mechanics, structural mechanics, or stress analysis, utilizing experimental methods
- Experience conducting FEA is a plus
- Experience with laboratory analytical tools, such as SEM/EDS, FIB, CT
- Experience with a CAD program, such as SolidWorks
- Experience with programming in support of data analysis
- Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute
- Potential for technical and project managerial leadership
- Ability to work creatively, take initiative, and innovate under project budget and timeline constraints
- Excellent verbal and written English and Chinese communication skills
- Ability to convey technical information clearly to individuals in engineering, business, legal, and related industries
