This is a hands-on role.\nYou will build SMART on FHIR apps that launch from Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner) and other\nEHRs, the FHIR services and data model behind them, and CDS Hooks services that bring\nNatera ordering and results into the provider's workflow. You will work in a small team with\nproduct and our wider EHR integration group, and you will handle patient data under HIPAA\nevery day.\nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES\nBuild and ship SMART on FHIR apps: EHR launch and standalone launch, OAuth 2.0 with\nPKCE, backend services authorization, scopes and token handling.\nDesign and build the server side: FHIR R4 APIs, mapping to our internal data model,\nprofiles and extensions.\nBuild CDS Hooks services with prefetch that respond within EHR time limits.\nTake apps through EHR vendor onboarding and go-live, starting with Epic (Vendor\nServices and Showroom), then Oracle Health and others. Work with health system IT on\nbuild and testing.\nHandle PHI correctly in storage, caching, logging and tracing: minimum necessary data,\nencryption, audit trails, no PHI in logs.\nWork with HL7 v2 and interface engine flows where the EHR needs them.\nWrite design docs, review code and mentor engineers.\nBe on call for what you ship.\nThis role works with PHI on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and have\naccess to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform\nthe job.\nMust complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure\nCompliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30\ndays of hire.\nMust maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nBS in computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience.\n6+ years of software development, with at least 3 building EHR integrations in production.\nHands-on SMART on FHIR: you have built and shipped an app that launches inside an\nEHR, not only consumed FHIR data.\nStrong FHIR R4: resource modeling, search, and terminology (LOINC, SNOMED, ICD-10).\nProduction go-live with Epic. Oracle Health (Cerner), athenahealth, MEDITECH or others\na plus.\nBackend services in Java and Spring Boot or similar, on AWS.\nExperience handling PHI under HIPAA in a production system.\nClear communication with clinicians, health system IT and product.\nNICE TO HAVE\nCDS Hooks in production.\nAn Epic Showroom listing, or an app built in the Oracle Health code console.\nLab orders and results: ServiceRequest, DiagnosticReport, Observation, and HL7 v2\nORM/ORU.\nFHIR Subscriptions and Bulk FHIR.\nInterface engines such as Mirth, Rhapsody or Cloverleaf.\nReact and TypeScript for in-EHR user interfaces.\nUSCDI, Da Vinci implementation guides, or ONC certification work.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES\nFHIR R4, SMART App Launch, OAuth 2.0 and OIDC, CDS Hooks\nJava and Spring Boot; REST and event-driven microservices\nAWS services such as SQS, S3, SNS and Lambda\nRelational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL or MySQL\nDocker, CI/CD, Linux fundamentals\nReact and TypeScript\nQuality assurance mindset\nApplicants must be authorized to work in the US without current or future visa sponsorship.\nThe pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
