This role applies engineering principles to help develop safe, reliable, and compliant solutions in accordance with company standards, applicable regulations, and industry best practices.\nThe Engineer works with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners to support the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of gas distribution infrastructure projects.\nKey Accountabilities\nSupport the engineering development and technical execution of gas distribution infrastructure projects, including main replacement, customer growth, municipal coordination, and system reinforcement programs.\nDevelop and review engineering designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction work packages under appropriate oversight.\nPerform design quality reviews and coordinate technical input from engineers, designers, internal stakeholders, and engineering consultants.\nSupport engineering evaluations related to system capacity, constructability, reliability, safety, and asset performance.\nCollaborate with Operations, Customer Connections, Construction, Asset Management, Damage Prevention, Maps & Records, and other stakeholders to support project execution from concept through completion.\nInterpret and apply applicable regulations, engineering standards, and company requirements.\nDevelop project scopes, technical specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for capital projects.\nCoordinate with external engineering consultants and contracted design firms to support quality deliverables, schedule alignment, and compliance with company standards.\nParticipate in initiatives focused on engineering efficiency, design quality, standardization, process improvement, and the adoption of engineering best practices.\nManage assigned tasks and deliverables across multiple engineering projects while supporting commitments related to safety, quality, schedule, and budget.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.\nMinimum of 2 years of engineering experience.\nExperience applying engineering principles to the design, construction, operation, maintenance, or management of infrastructure, utility, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or related systems.\nAbility to review engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and construction documentation with appropriate guidance.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment.\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage assigned work, priorities, and deadlines.\nEffective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups.\nValid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout National Grid's service territory as required.\nPreferred\nExperience in natural gas utility, pipeline, or other regulated infrastructure industries.\nKnowledge of gas distribution infrastructure, including mains, services, valves, pressure regulation equipment, and associated system components.\nExperience interpreting and applying utility regulations, engineering standards, and industry codes.\nEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure.\nExperience coordinating with engineering consultants or contracted engineering services.\nAdvanced degree and/or relevant industry certifications.\nMore Information\nUpstate NY Salary: $96,000 - $112,000 a year\nNational Grid will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.
