About the role

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is developing and constructing a series of HV substation projects across the North-West of the England.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager for our Infrastructure Delivery team, delivering projects in the Cheshire area.

Our transmission network is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation to support the journey to net zero. Senior Project Managers are at the heart of delivering the Grid upgrades that directly enable the UK’s Net Zero goals, leading a team of Project Managers in construction projects delivering new 400kV substations & Grid connections to wind farms, solar farms and battery storage - all of which will provide clean and affordable energy.

As a Senior Project Manager within our North-West team, you'll play a leading role in delivering critical substation new-build and extension work that is essential to the UK's clean energy future. As projects enter the procurement and delivery phases, successful candidates will become key members of the project leadership team, responsible for delivering all aspects of the works.

This is an opportunity to lead complex, high-profile programmes, influence strategic decisions, and make a lasting impact on one of the country's most ambitious infrastructure investment plans.

Our projects are based across Cheshire, so you’ll need to be within commuting distance of this area. You’ll primarily be based on site or in a project office, with regular regional travel, alongside the flexibility to work from home on an ad hoc basis.

About you

We're looking for a driven project professional who takes ownership and delivers projects safely, on time and within budget.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience in project and/or contract management within a construction, infrastructure or engineering environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget control and performance reporting.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive approach to risk management, continuous improvement and project delivery.
  • Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements, including CDM regulations.
  • An engineering background or strong technical understanding of engineering projects.
  • A full UK driving licence.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience working with contractors, consultants or delivery partners, as well as client-side delivery.
  • A degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • A recognised project management qualification, such as APM or PRINCE2.

What's in it for you?

  • Salary of £73,000 - £84,000 dependent on experience and capability
  • Company car
  • Annual Performance Based Bonus up to 30% of your base salary
  • 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days
  • Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave - so long as it’s relevant to your role
  • Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
  • Access to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing
