This role will be covering sites in England and Wales and your time will be split between home, office and travel to sites.\nAbout the role\nAs a Senior Safety Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing safety performance across National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). Working as part of the System Safety team, you will provide specialist safety advice, guidance, and assurance to operational and project teams, helping to ensure that safety remains at the forefront of business decision-making and delivery activities.\nThis is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about safety, enjoys solving complex challenges, and wants to make a tangible difference by influencing how safety is managed across one of the UK's most critical infrastructure organisations.\nWhat you'll do\nSupport the development and continuous improvement of safety strategies, standards, processes and procedures across the business\nHelp reduce high-consequence and fatal risks by promoting effective safety management and practical risk controls\nWork closely with operational teams, contractors and stakeholders to embed system safety principles into everyday activities. \nProvide expert safety advice and guidance, helping teams make informed decisions and manage risk effectively\nDrive improvements in safety culture and performance by influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels\nLead investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring lessons learned are shared and embedded\nMonitor changes in legislation, regulation and industry best practice. Helping the business remain compliant and prepared for emerging risks\nBuild strong relationships across the organisation to champion continuous improvement and deliver positive safety outcomes\nWhat you'll need\nExperience applying health and safety principles in operational settings, with a NEBOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety qualification \nA qualification in engineering, safety, or a related technical field (degree, HND, HNC), or equivalent hands-on experience in a safety-critical environment \nStrong understanding of SHEQ regulations, industry standards and compliance requirements within sectors such as energy, utilities, construction, or infrastructure\nSenior Authorised Person (SAP) status and significant experience working on high-voltage electrical systems (66kV+)\nKnowledge of system safety including hazard identification, risk assessment, safety assurance and effective risk control\nExperience developing or improving safety policies, procedures, standards and technical guidance to strengthen governance and operational safety\nA track record of leading or supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis and the implementation of lessons learned\nExcellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, build trusted relationships and drive a positive safety culture across the business\nWhat you'll get\nCompetitive salary between £65,000 - £75,000 per annum dependant on experience\nJob requirement car\nAnnual Performance Based Bonus\n26 days annual leave plus eight statutory days\nThe option to buy additional or sell holiday days\nGenerous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%\nFinancial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave - so long as it’s relevant to your role.\nAccess to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.\nFamily care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).\nAccess to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing.\nMore information\nThe closing date for this vacancy is 16/11/26.
