You’ll take increasing ownership of your work, collaborate effectively across teams, apply strong data quality, security and governance practices, and demonstrate a growth mindset by embracing new technologies and challenges.\nYou will develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data, writing clean, reliable and maintainable code in line with agreed engineering standards. The role involves building and supporting data tables, models and data products based on defined requirements, while performing data validation and quality checks to ensure outputs are accurate and complete. You will investigate and resolve data issues and pipeline failures, escalating more complex problems when required, and use engineering tools and platforms such as SQL, Python, Databricks and cloud technologies where relevant to the role.\nYou will follow established development, testing, deployment and change-control processes and create and maintain appropriate technical documentation. A key part of the role is understanding and applying data security, access and governance requirements while working collaboratively with engineers, analysts, product teams and business stakeholders. You will participate in code reviews, testing and team delivery activities, taking ownership of well-defined engineering tasks and delivering them to agreed quality standards and timelines.\nThe role also requires developing a strong understanding of the business domain and underlying data, not just the technical solution. You will build your technical capability through learning, feedback and hands-on delivery, contribute ideas for automation, simplification and continuous improvement, and demonstrate increasing independence while seeking guidance appropriately for more complex engineering decisions. You will also stay connected to developments in AI and analytics, translating relevant advances into practical opportunities for Nationwide.\nAbout you\nAs a minimum requirement, you’ll have:\nExperience with Databricks, dbt, Azure or similar data platforms\nGood understanding of DevOps tools and practices\nExperience working in an Agile delivery environment\nStrong communication and collaboration skills\nA growth mindset, with a passion for learning and taking on new challenges\nExperience working with regulated or sensitive data\nProven experience developing and deploying production solutions using Python and SQL\nExperience using GitHub (or equivalent) with version control, code reviews, testing and CI/CD practices\nStrong understanding of data modelling, semantic layers, metrics and data governance principles\nProven ability to assess new technologies through proof-of-concepts and translate findings into scalable solutions\nExperience working within multidisciplinary teams, including product, engineering, data governance, security and risk stakeholders\nStrong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences\nDemonstrated ability to take ownership of complex technical deliverables from design through to implementation\nOur customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together.
