Join our growing Expense Engineering team in Berlin or London. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the full expense lifecycle for employees, approvers, and finance admins. You will work on various product problems and AI challenges, including employee flows, international spend, admin and control, money movement and close, receipt intelligence, conversational expense, missing-info assistants, and admin and finance agents. You will design and ship features in backend services, own APIs and event-driven flows, improve document extraction and auto-itemization, and mentor others.
Missions
- Design and implement features in backend services, focusing on improving accuracy, latency, cost, and safety.
- Own APIs and event-driven flows that move money, receipts, and policy decisions at company scale.
- Mentor others and write designs that teams across time zones can implement from.
Profil recherché
- Interest in financial or workflow-heavy products such as payments, expenses, accounting or tax- Strong computer science fundamentals and backend experience in Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/Node.js or Python
- 1-3 years of software engineering experience, including internships or strong academic/personal projects
- Exposure to AI tools or projects involving LLMs, chatbots, RAG, document processing or AI-assisted development
- Based in Berlin or London, or willing to relocate
- Java is preferred but not mandatory if you have strong transferable backend skills
- Experience with APIs, relational databases and cloud platforms. Kafka or similar messaging systems are a plus
- Good communication, willingness to learn and understanding of testing, debugging and production-quality engineering
- OCR, financial workflows, multi-currency or policy engines
