The role is responsible for defining simulator requirements, developing and updating simulation exercises and databases, assessing the impact of operational and technology changes, and conducting validation and acceptance testing to ensure simulators accurately represent operational environments and meet training objectives. Working closely with operational stakeholders, instructors, and technology partners, the Specialist supports simulation delivery, technology implementation, and the continuous improvement of training systems and technology standards.Job Description\nWhat NAV CANADA offers you:\nChallenging, team-oriented work environment\nCompetitive compensation and benefits\nDefined benefit pension plan\nOpportunities for growth and development\nFlexible work arrangements\nDiverse and inclusive workforce\nKey Accountabilities:\nDevelop, maintain, execute, and enhance simulation exercises and documentation, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards and criteria, Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS), and Systems Approach to Training.\nCoordinate, prepare, distribute, and support simulation and simulator materials to regional training units, ensuring standardization.\nRecommend and develop operational simulation exercises and requirements for NAV CANADA operational training units in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and criteria.\nProvide support to regional training units in the delivery, monitoring and assessment of simulation training initiatives and simulator support.\nTest and document new learning technology hardware and software.\nPerform other related duties relevant to the operational and technical training programs.\nEducation:\nSuccessful completion of secondary school or equivalent.\nExperience:\n3+ years of varied experience in the design, development and maintenance of databases, simulation exercises, or basic simulator administration functions.\nExperience troubleshooting, resolving, and reporting technical issues related to simulation platforms.\nExperience providing technical guidance or training to others.\nExperience managing multiple priorities and delivering projects on time.\nKnowledge:\nStrong knowledge of all aspects of the Air Traffic Services system including procedures and techniques and an operating knowledge of all equipment gained through successful completion of formal training courses and experience.\nStrong knowledge of simulator databases including related exercise production and editing files.\nKnowledge of operating systems including Windows and Unix.\nKnowledge of operating characteristics of operational systems and input / output devices.\nKnowledge of airspace, organization and procedures of ATC/FSS operations, including High/Low Level, Terminal, Oceanic, and Arctic units.\nCurrent knowledge of aircraft performance and airmanship.\nAbilities:\nAbility to effectively coordinate, schedule, and oversee the work of team members.\nStrong project management skills with a focus on delivering results.\nExcellent negotiation and persuasion abilities to drive outcomes.\nAbility to coach and guide other in a collaborative team environment.\nAbility to communicate effectively both written and verbal.\nPersonal Suitability:\nStrong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.\nExcellent relationship-building and relationship management.\nWell-developed judgment and influencing capabilities.\nHigh level of tact and diplomacy in complex situations.\nLeadership skills combined with motivation, dependability, and judgment.\nWorking conditions:\nOccasional travel required.\nThis is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week on site required.\nNAV CANADA is committed to building a skilled, diverse workforce reflective of Canadian society.
