The role requires a combination of technical architecture, hands-on engineering, migration leadership, team management and stakeholder management.\nThe candidate should have strong hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Step Functions and AWS DMS, along with strong GCP expertise across BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage and Cloud Composer.\nThe Engineering Manager will work closely with US-based stakeholders, architects, engineers, DevOps teams, Data Science and BI teams to define the migration strategy and ensure successful execution.\nKey Responsibilities\n1. GCP Data Platform Architecture\nArchitect and implement scalable enterprise data platforms on GCP.\nDesign Data Lake and Lakehouse architectures using GCS and BigQuery.\nDefine Bronze, Silver and Gold/Atomic data layers.\nDesign scalable data ingestion, transformation and consumption frameworks.\nEstablish standards for data modeling, partitioning, clustering and storage.\nDesign multi-tenant and multi-location data architectures.\nDefine schema-on-read and schema-on-write strategies.\n2. AWS to GCP Migration Leadership\nLead the end-to-end migration of enterprise data platforms from AWS to GCP.\nAssess existing AWS architecture, data pipelines, workloads, dependencies and operational processes.\nDefine the target-state GCP architecture and migration roadmap.\nDevelop migration strategies for:\nAmazon S3 → Google Cloud Storage\nAmazon Redshift → BigQuery\nAWS Glue → Dataflow / Dataproc / BigQuery\nAWS Step Functions → Cloud Composer / Workflows\nAWS DMS → GCP-native CDC solutions\nAmazon Athena → BigQuery\nIdentify opportunities to modernize AWS workloads rather than performing a simple lift-and-shift migration.\nDefine migration phases, technical dependencies, risks and rollback strategies.\nLead architecture reviews and technical design discussions.\n3. AWS Data Platform Expertise\nAnalyze and optimize existing AWS data platforms before migration.\nWork with:\nAmazon S3\nAWS Glue\nAWS Glue Data Quality\nAmazon Redshift / Redshift Serverless\nAmazon Athena\nAWS Step Functions\nAWS DMS\nAWS Lake Formation\nUnderstand existing AWS ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, workloads and dependencies.\nIdentify equivalent or improved GCP services for each AWS workload.\nPrepare technical mapping and migration plans between AWS and GCP services.\n4. GCP Streaming & Real-Time Data Engineering\nArchitect real-time data pipelines using:\nGoogle Pub/Sub\nDataflow / Apache Beam\nBigQuery\nCloud Storage\nDesign high-volume event ingestion, enrichment and transformation pipelines.\nImplement event-driven architectures and appropriate delivery guarantees.\nOptimize streaming pipelines for latency, throughput and scalability.\nDesign BigQuery streaming ingestion patterns.\nImplement monitoring, logging and alerting for real-time workloads.\n5. ETL / ELT & Data Processing\nDesign and implement scalable batch and real-time ETL/ELT pipelines.\nMigrate AWS Glue-based pipelines to appropriate GCP services.\nDevelop transformation frameworks using:\nPython\nPySpark\nSQL\nDataflow / Apache Beam\nBigQuery\ndbt\nDesign CDC pipelines and real-time ingestion patterns.\nBuild orchestration workflows using Cloud Composer / Airflow.\nOptimize data processing jobs and query performance.\n6. Data Modeling & BigQuery\nDesign enterprise data models for analytics and reporting.\nDefine dimensional, normalized and denormalized data models.\nDevelop multi-tenant data structures.\nDesign BigQuery partitioning and clustering strategies.\nOptimize BigQuery SQL and query execution.\nDesign data models supporting both real-time and batch workloads.\nWork closely with BI and Analytics teams to create scalable consumption models.\n7. Data Governance, Security & Quality\nEstablish data governance and data quality standards across the GCP platform.\nImplement automated data quality checks and validation frameworks.\nEstablish data lineage, metadata and ownership standards.\nEnsure appropriate security controls across all GCP data layers.\nImplement:\nIAM\nLeast-privilege access\nEncryption\nService accounts\nNetwork security\nData access policies\nWork with governance and security teams to ensure compliance requirements are met.\nExperience with Dataplex, Data Catalog and data lineage is preferred.\n8. DevOps, Infrastructure & Automation\nLead infrastructure automation using Terraform.\nBuild repeatable and secure GCP infrastructure deployments.\nImplement CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workloads.\nWork with:\nTerraform\nGit\nGitHub\nCloud Build\nCI/CD pipelines\nAutomate data pipeline deployment, testing and infrastructure provisioning.\nEstablish Dev, QA, UAT and Production deployment standards.\n9. Performance & Cost Optimization\nLead performance optimization initiatives across GCP data workloads.\nOptimize:\nBigQuery query performance\nPartitioning and clustering\nDataflow pipelines\nSpark workloads\nCloud Storage\nStreaming workloads\nAnalyze AWS workloads and determine the most cost-effective GCP architecture.\nDevelop cloud FinOps and cost optimization strategies.\nEstablish performance benchmarks and SLAs for critical workloads.\n10. Engineering Management & Team Leadership\nLead and mentor a team of Data Engineers, Senior Data Engineers and Technical Leads.\nProvide technical direction and establish engineering standards.\nConduct architecture and code reviews.\nDefine technical roadmaps and engineering priorities.\nBreak complex migration requirements into actionable deliverables.\nTrack engineering progress, risks, dependencies and delivery milestones.\nPromote best practices around coding, testing, CI/CD, security and documentation.\nMentor engineers on GCP, data architecture and modern data engineering practices.\n11.
