These datasets will enable advanced analytics, AI-powered applications, dashboards, and metrics related to student success, student services impact, academic program outcomes, and institutional value.\nThis position serves as the technical bridge between data infrastructure and analytics users, ensuring that institutional data is modeled, documented, and structured to support high-quality insights for university leaders, faculty, advisors, and student success teams.USU is currently hiring for two positions to support the following areas of the university:\nStudent Success Division: In this role the analytics engineer works closely with functional student success teams and leaders to translate operational and student engagement data into scalable analytical models that support student support program assessment, student retention and completion strategies, and continuous improvement efforts. The position will help integrate data from multiple university systems to provide actionable insights, dashboards, and reporting that improve the university’s ability to identify student needs, evaluate interventions, and support student success outcomes across the institution.\nCenter for Civic Excellence: In this role the analytics engineer will design, develop, and maintain data models, assessment analytics, and reporting systems that support the measurement and continuous improvement of student learning within the Center for Civic Excellence. This role will work closely with faculty, academic leaders, and center staff to develop scalable approaches for collecting, analyzing, and communicating evidence of student learning outcomes. The position will help translate assessment and instructional data into actionable insights that inform curriculum development, support data-informed teaching and learning practices, and strengthen the Center’s ability to demonstrate educational quality, student growth, and institutional effectiveness.\nThis position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah\nResponsibilities\nAnalytics Data Modeling\nDesign and maintain analytics-ready data models that support student achievement, learning outcomes assessment, and student success initiatives.\nDevelop curated data layers within the university’s medallion data architecture to support reporting, dashboards, and predictive analytics (silver and gold layers).\nTransform complex institutional data sources into structured analytical datasets suitable for downstream analytics tools. Ensure data transformations are scalable, well-documented, and maintainable.\nOptimize data transformations to support high-performance dashboards and analytics applications.\nImplement dimensional models and semantic layers to support consistent institutional metrics.\nData Governance and Documentation\nDocument analytical datasets, transformations, and metric definitions.\nContribute to institutional data governance processes by helping define and standardize key student success metrics.\nEnsure analytics data models align with institutional definitions and reporting standards.\nSupport data quality monitoring and validation processes.\nCollaboration and Institutional Impact\nPartner with stakeholders to understand analytics needs.\nTranslate institutional questions about student learning and success into scalable analytics solutions.\nContribute to the development of a modern analytics environment supporting data-informed decision-making across the university.\nSupport strategic analytics initiatives led by the Office of Data & Analytics.\nQualifications\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, statistics, or a related field plus one year of related experience.\nExperience working with relational databases and SQL.\nExperience developing data transformations or data pipelines.\nFamiliarity with data modeling concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, star schemas).\nExperience working with analytics or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.\nStrong problem-solving and analytical skills.\nAbility to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMaster’s degree in related field\nExperience in higher education\nExperience with modern data transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt or similar tools).\nExperience working in cloud-based data platforms or data lake environments.\nFamiliarity with medallion architecture or layered data modeling approaches.\nExperience supporting predictive analytics or machine learning pipelines.\nExperience working with higher education data (student information systems, learning management systems, advising platforms).\nKnowledge of student success analytics, institutional research, or learning analytics.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\nStrong SQL and data transformation skills.\nUnderstanding of data modeling for analytics.\nAbility to translate analytical questions into scalable data solutions.\nStrong documentation and data governance practices.\nAbility to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.\nInterest in applying analytics to improve student success and institutional outcomes.\nEffective communication skills and comfort working with different teams within the organization.\nAbility to accept and give constructive feedback.\nAbility to communicate effectively and work with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the university.\nRequired Documents\nAlong with the online application, please attach:\nResume to be uploaded at the beginning of your application in the Candidate Profile under “Resume/CV” \nCover letter to be typed/pasted at the end of your application \n**Document size may not exceed 10 MB.**\nAdvertised Salary\nMinimum $70,000, commensurate with experience plus excellent benefitsADA\nEmployees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.
