Overview

USU Extension has received funding through Salt Lake County Opioid Settlement dollars to develop and implement an adapted SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) model in six Salt Lake County junior high schools. We are seeking a full-time Project Coordinator III to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of this pilot project across participating junior high schools.

In collaboration with the leadership team, this position will develop the intervention model and operational procedures and will supervise the team of USU Extension Intervention Specialists. In addition, they will have primary responsibility for monitoring implementation across schools, collecting evaluation data, and refining processes based on evaluation findings. They will also coordinate training and technical assistance for Intervention Specialists and provide direct intervention services in more complex cases. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact with school administrators as well as community-based treatment providers.

This position requires a high degree of independence, strong project management skills, excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, and the capacity to coordinate a complex initiative involving multiple schools and team members. This position is funded through a three-year agreement with the Salt Lake County Human Services Department. Employment beyond three years is possible but is contingent upon available funding. This is an in-person position.

  • Develop, establish, and continuously refine project protocols, procedures, implementation guides, referral processes, and other materials to support consistent, high-quality implementation across participating schools.
  • Establish and oversee the integration of Intervention Specialists within participating schools, proactively addressing role clarity, communication, confidentiality, and professional boundaries to support effective collaboration with school personnel.
  • Design and lead ongoing training, consultation, coaching, and implementation support for USU Extension Intervention Specialists assigned to participating schools.
  • Lead cross-sector coordination between Intervention Specialists and community partners to strengthen referral pathways and ensure students and families are connected with appropriate resources and services when additional support is needed.
  • Develop and oversee opportunities for participating students to engage in prevention-focused education, skill-building workshops, and other evidence-informed prevention activities aligned with project goals.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate trainings for school personnel, Intervention Specialists, mentors, and other project partners on the purpose, structure, referral pathways, implementation requirements, and operational processes of the pilot.
  • Establish and manage systems for collecting, monitoring, and analyzing project data; use findings to identify trends, implementation gaps, barriers, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of progress reports, dashboards, outcome reports, presentations, and other related materials that communicate project accomplishments, implementation progress, outcomes, and areas requiring attention.
  • Represent and advance the interests of USU Extension and the SBIRT Pilot Project through community meetings, professional events, partner meetings, and other external engagements, serving as a knowledgeable ambassador for the project and its goals.
