Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D.\nThe Role\nThe Data Center Chief Power Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, reliability, and optimization of all electrical power infrastructure within a hyperscale or mission-critical data center environment in Lappeenranta, Finland. This role leads electrical engineering strategy, ensures continuous uptime, manages high-voltage and low-voltage systems, and oversees compliance, safety, and emergency response activities in accordance with Finnish and European regulations.\nThe Chief Power Engineer works closely with facilities teams, operations, construction, commissioning, utility providers, vendors, and executive leadership to ensure reliable delivery of power to critical IT loads while supporting sustainability and energy-efficiency goals aligned with Nordic data center operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nPower Infrastructure Operations\nOversee operation and maintenance of:\nUtility service entrances\nMedium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear\nUPS systems\nGenerators and paralleling gear\nPDUs and RPPs\nBusways and power distribution systems\nBattery systems (VRLA and Li-ion)\nGrounding and bonding systems\nSCADA, BMS, and EPMS platforms\nEnsure continuous uptime and redundancy performance (N+1, 2N, or higher).\nLead electrical switching procedures, outage planning, and emergency response activities.\nReview, approve, and maintain electrical SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.\nCoordinate with local utility providers and transmission operators in Finland.\nReliability & Risk Management\nDevelop preventive and predictive maintenance programs for mission-critical electrical systems.\nConduct root cause analysis (RCA) for electrical and power-related incidents.\nLead failure investigations and corrective action programs.\nMonitor electrical system performance, capacity utilization, and load trends.\nManage arc flash, electrical safety, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) programs.\nEnsure compliance with:\nFinnish electrical safety regulations\nSFS electrical standards\nIEC and IEEE standards\nEU energy and environmental regulations\nOSHA-equivalent safety practices and internal corporate safety requirements\nEngineering & Design Oversight\nReview electrical designs for expansions, retrofits, and new deployments.\nSupport commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and acceptance testing.\nCoordinate with consultants, contractors, OEMs, and utility providers.\nSupport capacity planning and long-term infrastructure strategy.\nEvaluate resiliency improvements and modernization initiatives.\nParticipate in design reviews for high-voltage systems typically ranging from 10kV-36kV.\nLeadership & Team Management\nLead and mentor power engineers, technicians, and critical facilities operators.\nCoordinate contractor and vendor activities to ensure safe and compliant work execution.\nProvide technical escalation support during critical incidents and infrastructure events.\nParticipate in a 24/7 on-call rotation supporting mission-critical operations.\nPromote a strong culture of operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.\nEnergy & Sustainability\nOptimize Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).\nSupport sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives aligned with Nordic and EU environmental goals.\nAnalyze electrical load growth and future capacity requirements.\nEvaluate renewable energy integration, energy storage solutions, and backup power strategies.\nCollaborate with sustainability teams on carbon reduction and energy optimization initiatives.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in:\nElectrical Engineering\nPower Engineering\nEnergy Systems Engineering\nRelated technical field\nExperience\n8-15+ years of experience in:\nData center facilities engineering\nMission-critical operations\nIndustrial or utility-scale power systems\nHigh-availability electrical infrastructure\nExperience with Tier III or Tier IV environments preferred.\nExperience managing medium- and high-voltage systems (typically 10kV-36kV).\nExperience working within European or Nordic regulatory environments is highly preferred.\nTechnical Skills\nStrong knowledge of:\nPower distribution systems\nProtective relaying and coordination\nGenerator synchronization and controls\nUPS topologies\nSCADA/BMS/EPMS systems\nLoad flow and coordination studies\nElectrical testing and commissioning\nArc flash analysis and mitigation\nMission-critical infrastructure reliability practices\nFamiliarity with cold-climate operations and energy-efficient cooling strategies is advantageous.\nCertifications (Preferred)\nProfessional Engineer (PE) or European equivalent\nCertified Data Centre Professional (CDCP)\nData Center Certified Associate/Professional (DCCA/DCCP)\nNFPA 70E or equivalent electrical safety certification\nOSHA 30 or equivalent industrial safety training\nLicensed High Voltage Switching Operator (where applicable in Finland/EU)\nBenefits & Perks:\nCompetitive compensation\nCareer growth and learning opportunities\nFlexibility and ownership\nCollaborative and innovative culture\nOpportunity to work on impactful AI projects\nInternational environment and talented teams\nWhat's it like to work at Nebius:\nFast moving -
