As teams, we also run and host our own backends: “You build it, you run it, you love it.”\nWhat you’ll do as a Backend Developer at NS\nAs a Backend Developer, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining the systems that support the NS app. You’ll build scalable and reliable services that meet the highest quality standards.\nYour main focus will be on functionality that supports our service strategy and contributes to increasing self-service and reducing the need for customer contact. At NS, our goal is to offer services as proactively as possible: relevant to passengers and available at exactly the moment they need them.\nYou develop and maintain backend services in TypeScript, deployed on AWS.\nYou work closely with the Business Analyst, Product Owner and other developers to translate functional and business requirements into technical solutions.\nYou write structured, clean code, address technical debt and resolve security vulnerabilities where necessary.\nYou improve the quality, reliability and robustness of our backend by working test-driven and understanding how monitoring tools such as Datadog can be used effectively.\nYou stay up to date with the latest developments in backend technologies and share your knowledge with both the team and the wider developer community.\nHier ga je werken\nYou’ll work from our head office near Utrecht Central Station as well as from home, as part of a multidisciplinary DevOps team. You’ll work alongside another Backend Developer, an iOS Developer and an Android Developer. The team also includes a UX/UI Designer, Scrum Master and Product Owner.\nWithin the Service domain, there is extensive collaboration with other teams, for example teams that maintain services for the Forgotten Check-out process and teams working on the JeNS chatbot.\nTogether, we brainstorm innovative solutions, collaborate closely and explore new possibilities both within and beyond our own areas of expertise. We support you with the latest technologies.\nOur team is one of seven teams jointly responsible for components of the NS app. Backend Developers meet every week to present their work and discuss improvements that benefit multiple teams. Nothing is “set in stone.”\nThe codebase\nOur backend currently consists of serverless applications deployed on AWS. We are actively working towards stateless front-end applications by using a BFF (Backend for Frontend) architecture.\nThere is also a strong demand for an app that can adapt to passengers as they travel. To achieve this, we use applications outside our own team for content and personalisation. A versatile backend is therefore essential to providing excellent service.\nThere is a constant challenge to innovate and optimise.
