This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a pure people-management position.\n\nThe core responsibilities for the job include the following:\n\nEnd-to-End Engineering Ownership: \nOwn the engineering journey from agreed product scope to stable production release.\nIdentify technical dependencies, risks, and trade-offs early.\nWork closely with product, backend, and firmware teams to align on acceptance criteria, integration testing, and rollout plans.\nEnsure features are technically ready before committing to release timelines.\n\nMobile Reliability and Performance: \nOwn reliability across critical consumer-app experiences, including Bluetooth/BLE connectivity and reconnection, background execution, offline functionality and recovery, audio capture and playback flows, battery consumption and optimization, platform-specific Android/iOS behavior, crash prevention and production debugging, performance, and responsiveness.\n\nCode Quality and Technical Standards: \nEstablish strong engineering and code-review standards.\nReview code for correctness, asynchronous behavior, recovery scenarios, performance, security, and test coverage.\nDefine risk-based review gates for critical features.\nEnsure releases have the necessary technical evidence before going to production.\nBe comfortable stopping or delaying a release when critical engineering risks have not been addressed.\n\nTechnical Leadership and Mentoring: \nGive engineers clear ownership of features and technical areas.\nCoach engineers through implementation, testing, and release processes.\nHelp engineers develop stronger technical judgment and debugging skills.\nReview high-risk or complex changes while enabling engineers to make decisions independently.\nBuild review depth across the team so engineering decisions do not depend solely on the app lead or CTO.\n\nHands-on Engineering: \nContinue to contribute meaningfully to the codebase.\nParticipate in architecture decisions, debugging, and technical problem-solving.\nInvestigate difficult production issues and drive them to resolution.\nSimplify systems and designs where possible without compromising reliability.\n\nRequirements: \n4-7 years of software/mobile engineering experience.\nPrevious experience as an app lead, mobile lead, tech lead, or equivalent technical leadership role.\nProven experience leading engineers through multiple production releases.\nHands-on experience building and operating consumer-facing mobile applications.\nStrong mobile engineering fundamentals.\nRecent hands-on coding experience.\nExperience owning or contributing significantly to mobile architecture.\nStrong code-review and engineering-quality practices.\nDemonstrated experience mentoring engineers and improving their technical decision-making.\nAbility to work cross-functionally with product, backend, and other engineering teams.\n\nTechnical Skills: \nStrong experience with Flutter and Dart is highly preferred.\nStrong understanding of Android or iOS fundamentals with the ability to debug issues beyond the Flutter/framework layer.\nExperience with mobile application architecture, asynchronous programming, networking, state management, and testing.\nStrong understanding of application performance, reliability, and production debugging.\n\nGood to Have: \nExperience building connected-device or wearable applications.\nBLE/Bluetooth experience.\nExperience with real-time audio, audio recording, streaming, or playback.\nExperience with offline-first applications and synchronization.\nExperience working with battery-sensitive mobile applications.\nExposure to native Android/iOS development alongside Flutter.\nExperience working in an early-stage/startup environment.\n\nLeadership Expectations: \nWe are looking for someone who has already led a mobile/app engineering team in practice.
