Nesto is a Montreal fintech founded in 2018 that offers digital mortgages. Its platform gives Canadians instant rate comparisons and handles applications online. The company also licenses mortgage technology to lenders.

About Us

Founded in Montreal in 2018, nesto is a Canadian fintech company on a mission to make property financing positive, empowering, and transparent from start to finish. We began as a digital mortgage broker and became Canada's leading direct-to-consumer online lending platform. Through Nesto Cloud, our B2B, cloud-native, end-to-end mortgage technology platform, we empower financial institutions, credit unions, and commercial real estate lenders with intelligent automation, real-time compliance, and seamless integrations across the full lending lifecycle. Together with CMLS Financial, we form the Nesto Group: more than $73 billion CAD in residential and commercial mortgages under management, 1,300+ team members, 12 offices across Canada.

Our Track Record

  • Hypergrowth: Deloitte Fast 50 - 3 years in a row
  • Tech community credibility: TechTO Canadian Rocketship 2025
  • Industry leadership: CLA Lending Company of the Year - 4 consecutive years
  • Talent magnet: CMP Top Mortgage Employer 2025

Why Join Us

The mortgage industry runs on legacy systems, slow processes, and information nobody can see. We are changing that by building better technology. nesto is a place for builders, problem-solvers, and curious minds - people who move fast, embrace innovation, and believe we're stronger together. This is the place for you if you trust your skills and want to build technology that reshapes an entire industry. An entrepreneurial culture built on trust, speed, uncomfortable ambition, being stronger together, and a relentless obsession with our clients. We also do not think building with AI belongs to engineers. Every function here is expected to automate its own repetitive work, and you will have support to do it.

Work Location and Time Zone

This is a remote-first role open to candidates anywhere in Canada. We strongly prefer candidates who can work Eastern Time hours. If you are based elsewhere in Canada and have worked Eastern hours before, we still want to hear from you.

Why This Role Exists

We're delivering major platform programs for our large enterprise partners. This role is focused on building automation coverage for these initiatives, shaping end-to-end quality as the programs scale.

We already have a strong automation suite and deep in-house expertise at the staff level. This is not a rebuild from zero. It's about taking what works, adapting it to a platform being reshaped for these programs, and wiring it into CI/CD so quality keeps pace with delivery speed. We move fast and iterate, but we don't ship manual workarounds - we invest in repeatable, scalable structure.

You'd be the automation specialist within our delivery team, working closely with our staff automation developers as expert sounding boards, setting the approach and advising us on how this should be done. You can expect roughly a 70/30 split between hands-on coding and collaboration, depending on the project stage.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 90 days, a working test automation framework is running, with 60-80% of critical test scenarios automated, running, and actively relied on by the team.
  • Within six months, automation runs in the CI/CD pipeline on pull requests, mirroring what exists for our core platform.
  • You've adapted and extended the existing automation framework rather than rebuilding from scratch - leveraging the suite and expertise already in place.
  • You make sure quality is understood beyond sprint-by-sprint testing, with a focus on ensuring all the pieces work together end to end.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable automated test suites in Playwright, using design patterns that keep them maintainable over time.
  • Partner with architects, developers, product managers, and our Staff QA Automation Developers across the SDLC - to clarify requirements and define clear acceptance criteria early, and to raise QA practices across the organization.
  • Drive quality across UI and API testing, using monitoring signals, incident reviews, and customer feedback to find improvements.
  • Work with Delivery leadership, stakeholders, and partners to prioritize automation coverage.
  • Integrate automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline so coverage runs continuously.
  • Work with product managers to define comprehensive test plans from product and design specifications (URDs, PRDs, HLDs).
  • Play a key role in supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for key projects, for example when we integrate new partners or clients.
  • Leverage AI to speed up how you build and maintain automated tests, then share what works with the team.
  • Own quality beyond test execution - improve processes, documentation, and team workflows, and standardize what works into repeatable practices.
  • Review and run manual test cases in our test management tooling, validate features against test plans, and fold the right scenarios into the automated regression suite.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of QA experience testing SaaS or cloud applications, with a deep understanding of the full SDLC and how Quality Engineering fits into development.
  • 2+ years of hands-on test automation framework experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar, including authoring and maintaining end-to-end (E2E) test suites.
  • A strong background in TypeScript and/or Go is required, and experience with MySQL or similar relational databases is a plus.
  • An automation-first track record: automated coverage over manual-only QA, with reliability built into the CI/CD pipeline rather than bolted on.
  • Full-stack testing across UI and API layers, including API validation with tools like Postman.
  • Test architecture and scalable design expertise, using patterns such as Page Object Model, data factories, and separation of concerns.
  • Agile fluency, comfort with rapid release cycles, and familiarity with test management platforms like Allure TestOps.
  • Initiative and a point of view. You arrive with a plan rather than waiting to be told what to do.

Nice-to-Have

  • Hands-on AI initiative: you have built agents or applications that made testing meaningfully faster
  • You turn requirements into genuinely useful test coverage, not checkbox test cases
  • Experience with MySQL or similar relational databases
  • Familiarity with test management platforms like Allure TestOps
  • Experience in SaaS, fintech, banking, insurance, or other financial services environments

This Role Might Fit You If

  • You have stood up automation from nothing on a program already in flight, and found that energizing rather than daunting
  • You would rather adapt and evolve a working system than rebuild it to your own taste
  • You are comfortable telling leadership "here is what we should do and here is how" early on, not a year in
  • You enjoy being in the room with business and delivery people, not only engineers, and can explain why a test gap matters in business terms
  • You want to shape quality strategy, not only write test code

What This Role Is Not

  • This is not a heads-down coding role. If you want to stay out of product and business conversations, this will frustrate you.
  • This is not a role focused mainly on executing manual test cases.
  • This is not a role for someone who prefers a reactive, waterfall approach and waits for development to finish before getting involved.
  • This is not a role for someone who prefers to work in isolation and doesn't want to improve broader team workflows, documentation, or quality processes.
  • This is not a role for someone who isn't ready to bring AI tools into their daily work.

Interview Process

  • Recruiter Screen (30 min): An intro call to learn about your background and give you a real picture of the role.
  • Discovery Call (45 min): A conversation with the hiring manager to dig into your experience and assess mutual fit.
  • Take-Home Assignment: A chance to showcase your skills through a practical exercise relevant to the role.
  • Case Study Interview (60 min): A deep dive into your submission, with time to get to know some team members and ask about the role and company.
  • Final Interview (60 min): You'll meet with the recruiter and two additional stakeholders for a final conversation before a decision is made.
  • Offer Stage: Pending successful background, criminal, and reference checks, you'll receive a formal offer to join the team.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Top-tier extended health, dental, and vision coverage, featuring 100% drug coverage.
  • Health & Wellness Spending Account: A $1,500 combined annual flex fund for things like gym memberships or extra medical needs.
  • Generous Paid Time Off: 4 weeks of vacation plus 8 personal floater days.
  • Retirement Savings: Access to a group RRSP/DPSP plan featuring competitive company-matching contributions.
  • Telemedicine Services: Access via Dialogue and coverage for licensed practitioner services.
  • Family Support: Robust Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up programs.

Diversity and Inclusion

At nesto, we believe that creativity and collaboration are the result of a diverse team. We are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and we strongly encourage women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities to apply. We are committed to creating a workplace that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
