Sr. Storage Engineer

Job Summary

As a Senior Storage Engineer, you will lead the design, operation, and evolution of NetApp IT enterprise storage infrastructure across hybrid on-prem and cloud data centers. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor for critical storage platforms, providing advanced support, guidance, and engineering leadership to ensure our environment remains highly available, scalable,secure, and resilient.

Job Responsibilities

The Sr Storage Engineer works as part of the NetApp IT Storage Engineering team to provide operational support for our global storage infrastructure.

• Review of the overall environment and inform management of new technologies and/or methods to improve SLAs, performance, and/or availability of our environment.
• Design, deploy, operate, and evolve NetApp platforms including on-prem ONTAP, Amazon FSx, Azure CVO, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, StorageGRID, E-Series, and supporting tools such as NetApp Console, DII, SnapCenter, and MCPs across global workloads, data centers, and regions.
• Manage enterprise storage services across NAS, SAN, and object storage. Maintain SVMs, aggregates, volumes, LUNs, LIFs, FlexVols, FlexCache, FlexClones, SnapMirror, SnapVault, SnapLock, Workload Security, Tamper Proof Snapshots, Autonomous Ransomware Protection, tenants, buckets, S3 endpoints, and lifecycle policies.
• Support provisioning, migrations, decommissioning, upgrades, lifecycle refreshes, replication, disaster recovery, backup, compliance, retention, data protection, and cost optimization activities.
• Embed security, compliance, and reliability into all storage platforms and integrations, including certificates, access keys, encryption, tenant controls, bucket policies, and S3-compatible access, to enable growth without increasing enterprise risk.
• Internalize an AI first culture in day-to-day decision making and embed AI into how we engage, build, operate, and support the enterprise.
• Develop and implement strategic innovation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce drag between infrastructure teams including immutable infrastructure, Agentic AI platforms, and workflow orchestration.
• Active daily use of AI coding tools like Copilot CLI and VS Code to accelerate results in automation, analysis, and documentation.
• Translate operational challenges into effective prompts, validate AI output, and integrate solutions into production workflows.
• Automate storage operations using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, REST APIs, NetApp ONTAP CLI/API, Terraform, and other infrastructure-as-code frameworks.
• Monitor storage health, performance, capacity, alerts, audit logs, and system events; proactively identify risks, lead remediation, and perform root-cause analysis.
• Troubleshoot complex storage issues involving performance, connectivity, replication, hardware, firmware, protocols, certificates, encryption, S3 access, latency, node failures, and application integration.
• Collaborate with VMware, Windows, Linux, Cloud, Database, Networking, Security, and Application teams to meet operational and business objectives.
• Manage secure storage integrations, including S3-compatible access, certificates, access keys, encryption, tenant controls, bucket policies, and related security configurations.
• Create and maintain documentation, standards, runbooks, diagrams, and knowledge base articles while mentoring junior engineers and operations teams.

Job Requirements

• Experience with containers, APIs, databases, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Understand multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
• Knowledge of AI patterns including Retrieval-Augmented Generation, Large Language Models, MCP, Agentic AI, orchestration, skills, and Human-in-the-Loop practices.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and projects with other infrastructure teams, as well as work collaboratively with the team to support timelines.
• Present strategies and prototypes to management with benefit analysis.
• Ability to adapt and learn new technologies and understand their implications in enterprise data centers.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Solid understanding of:

Proficiency in SAN fabrics, and NAS protocols:

• • Fiber Channel
  • iSCSI
  • NVMe-oF
  • NFS
  • CIFS/SMB

• Proficiency in Solaris, Red Hat/Linux, and Windows operating systems.
• Expert in WAN data replication techniques, CDP, asynchronous, and enterprise backup topologies.
• Meet respective in-office expectations based on hybrid work category.
• Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation and after-hours support for critical maintenance or incidents.

Education

• A minimum of 12 years of experience is required.
• A Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences, or related technical field is required; or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a large data center with hundreds of petabytes of data.
• Knowledge of NetApp technologies is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects

Compensation:

The target salary range for this position is 147,900 - 220,000 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. The range is based on 'On Target Earnings’ (OTE) representing the total potential earnings, which is the sum of the base salary and potential commission earned when performance targets are achieved. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s).
