We power the estate planning services of an affiliated law firm, Hargrove Firm, with attorneys across 50 states delivering estate plans for the $1–50M wealth segment. We've grown 210% in the past year, are backed by institutional capital, and count multiple top 10 wealth management firms among our partners.\nAbout the RoleWe're looking for a Legal Document Automation Developer to join our team of document automation experts working on NetLaw's legal product.\nIn this role, you'll build and maintain automated legal document templates—including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning instruments—using sophisticated conditional logic to transform complex legal language into intelligent, dynamic documents.\nImportant: This is not a general legal assistant, paralegal, or software engineering role. We are specifically seeking professionals who have personally built automated legal document templates using document automation platforms. Experience preparing legal documents alone is not sufficient.\nThis is meticulous, high-stakes work. The documents you automate are legally binding instruments that protect families and their legacies. A misplaced clause, a broken condition, or an incorrect variable isn't a minor bug — it's a real-world consequence. You'll thrive here if you find deep satisfaction in getting every detail exactly right.\nSuccess in this role depends on experience—not just familiarity—with legal document automation. We are looking for candidates who have personally built and maintained production templates containing sophisticated conditional logic, tested numerous client scenarios, debugged template behavior, and worked closely with attorneys to translate legal requirements into reliable automated documents. If your experience is limited to preparing legal documents or using document automation software as an end user, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuild, test, and maintain automated document templates using conditional logic to handle complex legal scenarios and jurisdiction-specific variations\n\nDiagnose and resolve logic errors that appear only under specific combinations of client inputs.\n\nInvestigate unexpected document outputs and trace issues back to template logic.\n\nOwn template quality from initial development through testing, deployment, maintenance, and ongoing enhancements.\n\nTranslate attorney-drafted legal language and specifications into dynamic, logic-driven templates\n\nWrite and maintain template logic using IF/ELSE conditions, variables, loops, calculations, and reusable components to generate legally accurate documents across hundreds of client scenarios.\n\nRigorously test document outputs across a wide range of input combinations to verify that every conditional path produces accurate, compliant documents\n\nCollaborate with attorneys, product managers, and engineers to clarify requirements — and proactively ask questions when specifications are ambiguous or incomplete\n\nDocument your work clearly so templates remain maintainable as the product evolves\n\nContinuously learn new tools, automation platforms, and estate planning concepts as our product grows\n\nMaintain production templates that generate thousands of estate planning documents annually across all 50 states.\n\nWhat We're Looking ForMinimum qualifications are strictly required:\n\nDirect experience designing, building, and maintaining production document automation templates used by attorneys or clients.\n\nExperience with conditional logic\n\nExperience systematically testing generated document output across multiple client scenarios and edge cases.\n\nCandidates without this experience will not be considered.\nRequired Experience & Skills\n2–4 years of hands-on experience in legal document automation — building templates with conditional logic in platforms such as Contract Express, HotDocs, Gavel, Pathagoras, XpressDox, or another enterprise document automation platform.\n\nExperience troubleshooting template logic involving nested conditions, repeating data, variables, calculations, and jurisdiction-specific document variations.\n\nWorking proficiency reading and writing JavaScript to support template logic, automation, and debugging.\n\nExperience working with legal documents and legal language, with a strong grasp of why precision matters in a highly regulated field\n\nDemonstrated ability to identify and resolve subtle logic, formatting, or conditional-path defects before release.\n\nAbility to work independently, manage your own workload, and deliver reliably in a remote environment\n\nExperience maintaining shared template libraries or collaborating through version-controlled workflows is a plus.\n\nA fast learner's mindset: comfortable picking up new tools, concepts, and legal subject matter quickly\n\nStrong communication skills and the judgment to ask clarifying questions early rather than guessing when something is confusing or underspecified\n\nPreferred\nExposure to estate planning documents and concepts — wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related instruments\n\nBackground as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal technologist\n\nWho Thrives HereYou're the kind of person who reads the fine print — and enjoys it. You take ownership of your work, hold yourself to a high standard of accuracy, and understand that in legal technology, \"close enough\" is never good enough. You're self-directed but not siloed: you know when to push through a problem on your own and when to raise your hand and ask. You're excited by the intersection of law and technology, and you want your work to have real impact on real families.\nWhy NetLaw\n\nFully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S.\n\nMeaningful work — the documents you build help families protect what matters most\n\nA specialized, expert team — join colleagues who share your obsession with quality and your passion for legal technology\n\nGrowth — deepen your expertise in one of the most sophisticated document automation environments in legal tech\n\nInterview ProcessQualified candidates will complete a brief practical exercise focused on legal document automation and conditional logic. The exercise reflects the type of work performed in this role and is intended to evaluate real-world problem-solving rather than memorized interview questions.\nThe practical exercise is designed around the types of problems you'll solve in this role. No estate planning expertise is required beyond the experience outlined in this posting.\nNetLaw is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.\nSalary: $75k-$85k baseOriginally posted on Himalayas","description_format":"text","description_chars":6821,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":2,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-10T20:28:30Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":23,"reasons":["seen:3","win:early","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":85000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/netlaw-legal-document-automation-developer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/netlaw-legal-document-automation-developer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T23:29:37Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":14,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":4381967},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=4381967"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fnetlaw-legal-document-automation-developer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fnetlaw-legal-document-automation-developer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fnetlaw-legal-document-automation-developer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/netlaw-legal-document-automation-developer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fnetlaw-legal-document-automation-developer"}]}
