This individual will lead a team, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to customer quality standards while performing advanced fiber optic splicing and testing tasks. This is a traveling position and combines leadership, project management, and technical expertise in fiber optic infrastructure.\nKey Responsibilities:\nEnsure project safety, quality, schedule, and cost compliance with company/client standards.\nLead 2-3 crew members, optimizing skills and equipment use.\nAct as primary liaison between Project Manager and crew.\nInterpret customer prints to plan tasks and schedule work.\nHold daily pre-work meetings to align on goals and safety.\nVerify construction and splicing work meets standards.\nComplete phase-specific closeout documentation.\nDocument job progress with photos.\nMaintain company equipment (vehicles, trailers, test tools).\nPerform precise fusion and mid-sheath splicing on high-count fiber cables (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).\nConduct live fiber splicing during maintenance windows to minimize disruptions.\nInstall fiber optic cables in various environments (underground, aerial, indoor).\nExecute OTDR/OLTS testing to assess cable performance.\nTroubleshoot and resolve live network fiber issues.\nProduce FastReporter reports for test and splicing documentation.\nOperate Fujikura splicers and EXFO testers for low-loss splices and diagnostics.\nPull fiber cables through conduits/ducts for installations.\nSupport cabinet bolting and basket tray installation (preferred).\nSafely operate scissor lifts for elevated work (preferred).\nMaintain a clean workspace and follow proper handling procedures for fiber optic materials and equipment.\nComply with OSHA and Network Connex safety standards\nWork Schedule and Environment:\nWork indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, adapting to project requirements.\nPerform tasks during daytime and occasional nighttime maintenance windows as required by client schedules.\nStand for extended periods (8-10 hours per day) and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.\nExperience and Education:\n5+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry with related experience in construction and tower work.\n2-3 years of verifiable experience splicing and testing fiber optic cables for dark fiber providers (e.g., Zayo), meeting stringent quality and performance standards.\n3+ years of hands-on experience using Fujikura fusion splicing machines for high-count fiber splicing (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).\n3+ years of experience performing OTDR and OLTS testing with EXFO testing equipment.\n2+ years of experience producing Fast Reporter reports for network documentation.\nQualifications & Skills:\nProven ability to perform mid-sheath (ring-cut) splicing and live fiber network splicing with minimal service disruption.\nStrong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues on live/active network fiber.\nFamiliarity with cable pulling, cabinet bolting, basket tray installation, and scissor lift operation (preferred).\nStrong written and oral communication skills for effective team and client interactions.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.\nStrong interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.\nAbility to pass a clean background check and drug screen.\nValid driver’s license required.\nFluency in English for effective communication.\nCertification in fiber optic splicing or testing (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI, or equivalent) preferred.\nPrior experience with major telecommunications carriers or dark fiber providers beyond Zayo preferred.\nFamiliarity with additional fiber optic testing tools or software beyond EXFO and FastReporter preferred.\nBenefits:\nOpportunities for professional development and training in advanced fiber optic technologies.\nAccess to a supportive union environment with representation and advocacy.\nCollaborative and safety-focused work culture.\nNetwork Connex believes all persons are entitled to equal employment opportunities and does not discriminate against employees or job applicants because of race, color, gender, affectional or sexual orientation, domestic partnership status, ancestry, religion, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, disability, veteran status, age or any other protected group status.
