Network Connex is a US communications infrastructure contractor that designs, builds and maintains fiber optic networks, wireless and tower sites, structured cabling, in-building wireless and hyperscale data center infrastructure for telecom carriers and data center operators. It works nationwide from offices and yards in states including Arizona, California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and Virginia, and includes National Technologies (NTI), a turnkey installer of fiber optic and data center infrastructure. It hires construction and project managers, aerial lineman foremen, fiber technicians, OSP engineers, logistics coordinators and business development managers.

The Managing Director serves as the primary strategic point of contact for an assigned key customer and leads the long-term development of the customer relationship and program. The role builds trusted relationships across the customer’s leadership, construction, engineering, procurement, and planning teams to secure early visibility into its rolling three-year infrastructure forecast and position the company as a preferred partner in decisions about future markets, scope, and capacity allocation.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this leader translates customer demand into a forward-looking account strategy and a coordinated readiness plan. The Managing Director owns the customer program playbook and governance of customer-specific build standards, ensuring markets and delivery teams have current, clear requirements and a consistent framework for program standards and consistent expectations across locations.

The Managing Director partners closely with market and delivery leaders, who lead project execution and manage field resources, project budgets, and P&L performance. Together, they align future customer commitments with delivery capabilities and support consistent application of program standards. The Managing Director governs those standards and escalates gaps through delivery leadership and the Chief Strategy Officer, with delivery leaders responsible for corrective actions. Visibility into program financial performance informs account growth, readiness planning, and strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic customer contact, building trusted relationships that earn access to the customer’s three-year forecast and early involvement in decisions about future markets, scope, and work allocation.

  • Develop and advance the account growth strategy with sales, preconstruction, and delivery, aligning customer opportunities and proposed commitments with company capabilities and approval authority.

  • Maintain a rolling two- to three-year program outlook and translate anticipated demand into readiness plans with the Emerging Markets Director, market and delivery leaders, and support functions to prepare for expansion and future capacity needs.

  • Own customer-specific build standards, ensuring markets and delivery teams receive current, clear requirements and understand changes affecting their work.

  • Develop and maintain the customer program playbook, including customer interaction expectations, invoicing and progress reporting standards, launch requirements, and lessons learned.

  • Partner with quality and delivery leaders to monitor standards adoption, improve consistency across markets, and apply lessons learned; escalate standards gaps through delivery leadership and the Chief Strategy Officer, with delivery owning corrective actions.

  • Lead customer and internal program reviews to align priorities, resolve strategic issues, and keep the Chief Strategy Officer informed of growth opportunities and readiness risks.

  • Maintain visibility into program financial performance with finance and market leaders, using those insights to inform growth decisions and address program-level commercial or billing issues.

  • Lead and develop a focused team of Program Managers and senior technical Project Managers, as needed, to support markets with program standards, technical coordination, and launch preparation.

  • Build effective partnerships with local market and delivery leaders, define clear program team priorities and deliverables, and hold team members accountable for commitments.

  • Develop their customer knowledge, technical credibility, and ability to influence across markets, resolving competing priorities through agreed governance and escalation channels.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in data center infrastructure, construction, fiber connectivity, or technology integration, including experience supporting hyperscale customer programs and at least five years in senior customer-facing account or program leadership

  • Demonstrated success deepening strategic customer relationships, gaining visibility into multi-year demand, and converting customer insight into growth and readiness plans.

  • Experience establishing repeatable customer program standards and governance across multiple markets or sites.

  • Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure builds, including structured cabling, conveyance, racks/cabinets, fiber installation, splicing, testing, and turnover requirements relevant to the assigned program.

  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and translate technical, reporting, and commercial requirements into practical guidance for delivery teams.

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including familiarity with revenue, backlog, margins, forecasting, invoicing requirements, agreements, and change management.

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional leaders, resolve ambiguity, and maintain clear accountability without direct control of project execution.

  • Excellent executive communication, relationship management, negotiation, and team development skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. Ability to travel to customer and market locations as needed.

Preferred Experience

  • PMP, RCDD, or comparable credentials; MBA or relevant advanced degree.

  • Experience with program dashboards, document control, quality systems, and cross-market knowledge sharing.
