Accountant

The successful candidate will provide transactional and financial accounting support, ensuring accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, fixed asset management and VAT administration. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent analytical skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting and Reporting

• Process financial transactions, including loan interest, depreciation, projects and other accounting entries.
• Prepare and process accruals and provisions accurately and timeously.
• Perform month-end foreign exchange valuations.
• Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with IFRS and company policies.

Reconciliations and Financial Controls

• Reconcile account balances to supporting documentation.
• Reconcile intercompany accounts, including loans, debtors and creditors.
• Investigate and clear suspense account balances, ensuring all outstanding items are adequately reconciled and explained.
• Maintain strong financial controls and identify discrepancies requiring corrective action.

Fixed Asset Management

• Prepare and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Record and document asset acquisitions, transfers, disposals and movements.
• Ensure fixed asset records are accurate, complete and compliant with company policies.

VAT and Statutory Compliance

• Prepare and submit VAT201 returns within the required deadlines.
• Reconcile VAT schedules to the accounting system and financial records.
• Assist with VAT verification audits and respond to SARS queries.
• Prepare and submit annual Exchange Control (Excon) returns.
• Provide statutory reports and financial information as required.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

• Assist with the preparation and compilation of annual budgets.
• Provide financial information and analysis to support business planning and decision-making.

Audit and Compliance

• Prepare supporting documentation and maintain accurate records for internal and external audits.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, financial policies, internal procedures and statutory requirements.
• Contribute to the improvement of financial processes and controls.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

BCom Degree in Accounting.

Minimum of 5 years' relevant accounting experience in a similar role.

Proven experience in financial accounting, reconciliations, fixed asset management, VAT administration, budgeting and statutory reporting.

Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits.

Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial controls.

Experience using Pastel and/or Xero.
