leading engineering and defence technology organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its armoured vehicle engineering team.The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration and optimisation of mechanical systems and components for specialised and armoured vehicle platforms, working across the product lifecycle from concept and detailed design through prototyping, testing and production.\nThis is an opportunity to work on technically complex vehicle programmes within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and develop mechanical systems, structures and components for armoured and specialised vehicles.\nDevelop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.\nDesign and integrate vehicle structures, chassis, suspension, driveline and associated mechanical subsystems.\nPerform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and design verification.\nConduct or support FEA, structural analysis, fatigue assessments and weight optimisation.\nApply GD&T and Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles.\nSupport the integration of mechanical systems with electrical, electronic and systems-engineering interfaces.\nParticipate in concept development, feasibility studies and detailed design reviews.\nDevelop and maintain Bills of Materials, specifications and engineering documentation.\nSupport prototype builds, testing, validation and vehicle evaluation activities.\nInvestigate design and manufacturing issues and implement engineering improvements.\nProvide technical support to manufacturing, production, procurement and suppliers.\nParticipate in engineering change processes and maintain configuration and revision control.\nEnsure designs comply with applicable customer requirements, engineering standards, safety requirements and defence-industry specifications.\nSupport the transition of designs from development into production.\nMinimum Requirements\nBEng / BSc / BTech / National Diploma in Mechanical or Design Engineering.\nRelevant mechanical design engineering experience, depending on seniority.\nStrong experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CATIA, Creo, Inventor or similar.\nProven experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and mechanical assemblies.\nStrong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing processes.\nExperience with fabrication, welding, machining and heavy mechanical structures.\nKnowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and Design for Manufacture.\nExposure to FEA or other engineering analysis tools.\nAbility to interpret engineering specifications and technical documentation.\nStrong
