Our stack centers on Java 25, Spring, GraphQL, NoSQL, Kubernetes, Kafka and AWS.\nIf you're passionate about understanding user behavior at scale and want to help shape how New Relic's classic and agentic experiences adapt to the people using them, we want to hear from you.\n\nWhat you'll do\n\nOwn the architecture and technical direction of a significant, moderately-scoped service within the behavioral data platform, from design through delivery\n\nChampion the delivery of full components and support the lead engineer in coordinating feedback and work across the team\n\nCollaborate with product managers, stakeholders and customer teams to clarify requirements and distill them into a clear technical plan\n\nIdentify and mitigate technical risks (including gaps against SLAs or other reliability commitments) before they become production issues\n\nFacilitate healthy, data-driven design debates, making sure the team explores multiple options and weighs trade-offs before committing\n\nProvide technical direction and mentorship to less experienced engineers, and act as an expert operator of the services you own\n\nContribute to improving team processes so we can deliver quality software regularly and incrementally\n\nActively use AI coding assistants and agents in your own workflow, and help set the standard for how the team adopts them\n\nHelp organize and lead technical communities of practice, not just participate in them\n\nThis role requires\n\nDeep, hands-on expertise in Java and backend service design, with a track record of delivering production code that follows solid security, reliability, and maintainability practices\n\nExperience building and operating Kafka-based streaming pipelines and services in a cloud (AWS) production environment\n\nStrong experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and scaling, including diagnosing and resolving complex production issues\n\nA track record of mentoring engineers and providing constructive direction in code reviews and design discussions\n\nComfortable partnering directly with product managers and stakeholders to shape technical scope from ambiguous requirements\n\nSound judgment in selecting the right approach on issues of moderate to broad scope\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build consensus across differing technical viewpoints\n\nProficiency in English\n\nBonus points if you have\nExperience designing GraphQL APIs or microservices architectures at scale\n\nFamiliarity with Kubernetes concepts and ability to reason about production behavior\n\nExperience with distributed data processing in the cloud (Spark, Hadoop/Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift) or ETL/orchestration tools such as Airflow\n\nDeep understanding of data modeling principles (dimensional modeling, normalization), especially applied to behavioral or user segmentation\n\nExperience evaluating, benchmarking, or building custom agentic AI tools, prompt workflows, or developer automation\n\nExposure to recommendation systems or building context for agentic/LLM-based experiences\n\nExperience with SQL performance tuning or data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker)\n\nA track record of technical mentorship beyond your immediate team\n\nPlease note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.\nFostering a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment is important to us.
