Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. We also partner with the New Ireland Province to ensure economic benefits flow directly to the community, strengthening our commitment to sustainable development and positive local impact.\nPurpose\nResponsible for providing civil and structural engineering design and modifications within the process plant and associated mine site infrastructure that shall meet company specifications, comply with operational requirements, agreements and relevant standards.\nEssential Duties\nProvide civil and structural engineering designs and calculations to relevant design codes and standards.\nReview and investigate proposed structural modifications within the process plant and mine site infrastructure and provide engineering guidance.\nConduct site inspections and prepare conceptual structural design options for presentations to clients and stakeholders.\nPrepare for review detailed drawings suitable for construction.\nLiaise with inter-departmental clients, stakeholders and external consultants if necessary for design parameters and project requirements.\nIdentify and evaluate potential risks related to structural designs and construction methodologies, implementing robust mitigation strategies to enhance safety and project viability.\nProvide technical support during the construction and installation phases, ensuring structures are built according to the design specifications.\nTraining & Experience\nBachelor’s Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, 3-5 years of structural engineering experience in a mining or heavy industry environment.\nDemonstrated competence in the application of Australian Standards \nStrong technical capability in steel structures and structural concrete.\nStrong attention to detail and documentation capability.\nExperience in the use Space Gass Software. Strong capability to perform relevant engineering calculations to support designs.\nAble to read, understand and prepare engineering drawings.\nCapability to review engineering drawings and red-line in consultation with the design team to ensure accurate design and construction drawings.\nExcellent planning and organizational skills.\nExcellent communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision\nGood computer literacy and understanding of Microsoft software suite\nUnderstanding of safety compliance and regulations\nRegistered with IEPNG \nValid Class 6 Driving License \nWorking Conditions\nThis is a FIFO opportunity based at Newmont's Lihir operation in Papua New Guinea, working a 21 days on / 21 days off roster.
