Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. We also partner with the New Ireland Province to ensure economic benefits flow directly to the community, strengthening our commitment to sustainable development and positive local impact.\nPurpose\nAs a Quality Control Officer, you will Co-ordinate and schedule activities within Newmont Lihir Analytical Laboratory to ensure the Quality Management System is maintained in alignment with ISO/IEC17025 standards.\nEssential Duties\nHandle the maintenance and distribution of the Management System documentation.\nManage the external audit program.\nImplement, maintain, and improve the management system.\nIdentify deviations from the management system or from the procedures for performing laboratory activities.\nReport to laboratory management on the performance of the management system and any need for improvement.\nSchedule and assign actions resulting from quality system review meetings and audits.\nManage equipment calibrations register and schedule calibrations to meet the standard requirements.\nAssist with support and coaching staff on Quality System requirements and processes to meet the standard.\nProvide regular updates to crews when there are internal or external changes affecting the Quality System or procedures\nEnsuring the effectiveness of laboratory activities.\nSupport technical needs where required.\nTraining & Experience\nEssential Requirements\nBachelor's in chemistry essential\nDemonstrated experience working in a mine Assay Lab\nExtensive experience with ISO17025 or ISO9001 Quality management system\nDemonstrated familiarity in Gold and Sulphur Analysis.\nHighly Regarded\nAbility to systematically assess processes, procedures, records, and activities against established\nstandards, policies, and regulatory requirements to verify compliance, identify risks, and drive continual improvement.\nAbility to investigate non-conformances, quality incidents, equipment failures, and analytical errors using the 5 Whys methodology to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.\nWorking Conditions\nThis position is offered on a 21 Days On / 21 Days Off residential roster on Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea and is open to PNG Nationals only.\nYou will join a high-performing Assay Lab Technical Services team focused on delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable production outcomes while supporting the ongoing growth and success of the Lihir Operation.\nAt Newmont, our people are our strength and we’re committed to a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace.
