Construction began in 2014, with commercial production commencing in 2016. The operation includes five open pits and processes ore using a conventional mill and Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) circuit. Newmont owns a 75% interest in Merian, with the remaining 25% held by Suriname’s state-owned oil company.
