As a Communications Manager reporting to the EVP of Communications, you will be an integral member of Nextdoor’s communications team, helping shape and amplify the company’s story across the U.S. and around the world. You’ll work across a broad range of communications disciplines-from media relations and executive communications to content, social media, internal communications, and events-bringing curiosity, sound judgment, and a hands-on approach to every project.

This is a highly collaborative, cross functional role for a versatile communicator who enjoys moving between strategy and execution, and generating measurable results. You’ll help develop communications plans, draft media pitches and blog posts, support social storytelling, contribute to all-company meetings and internal initiatives, and identify new opportunities to engage our audiences. Your creativity, initiative, and ability to build strong relationships internally and externally will be essential to your success.

The Impact You’ll Make 

We're looking for a communications generalist who already operates like a more senior communicator, someone who can step into an ambiguous, fast-moving situation, ask the right questions, and start producing sharp work without needing a fully scoped brief. This role touches nearly every part of how Nextdoor talks to employees, leaders, the press, and the public, so we care less about which specific muscle you've built and more about how you think, how fast you learn, and how much ownership you're comfortable taking. If you're the person your last team called first when something was unclear or moving fast, this is built for you.

• Executive communications: Support leaders with talking points, presentations, remarks, internal updates, and other communications that bring the company’s priorities and perspective to life
• Thought leadership: Identify opportunities and develop compelling narratives, bylines, speaking materials, and other communications that position Nextdoor and its leaders as voices on community, trust, technology, and the future of connection
• Product communications: Partner with product, marketing, and cross-functional teams to translate product news and company priorities into clear, audience-focused messaging for launches, updates, and key moments
• Internal communications: Help plan and deliver all-company meetings, employee communications, leadership updates, change-management materials, and other initiatives that keep employees informed and engaged
• Media and external communications: Contribute to media strategies, pitches, briefings, reactive communications, and other external moments that strengthen Nextdoor’s reputation
• Media relations execution: Build and maintain media lists, pitch reporters directly, staff briefings, and track, report, and socialize coverage. Produce press kits, briefing books, and post-moment wrap-ups
• Integrated communications planning: Build and manage communications plans, timelines, workflows, and measurement across multiple workstreams, ensuring the right audiences receive the right message at the right time
• Cross-functional partnership: Develop strong relationships across the company, gather insights from subject-matter experts, and bring clarity and momentum to communications projects from strategy through execution
• Generalist communications support: Move fluidly across communications disciplines and workflows, bringing sound judgment, strong writing, organization, and initiative to whatever the team and business need most

What You’ll Bring to The Team

• Strong judgment and executive presence, including the ability to advise senior leaders, handle sensitive information, and navigate fast-moving situations with discretion
• A proactive, resourceful working style. You're comfortable in ambiguity, can juggle multiple priorities, and naturally move toward wherever the team needs the most help
• Exceptional writer and editor who can turn complex business, product, and technology topics into thought leadership bylines, executive social posts, and other external content that reads as clear and compelling, and not too corporate.
• Around 5-7 years of communications experience, with agency or agency-adjacent experience strongly preferred. We're looking for someone who has carried several accounts or workstreams at once, written convincingly in a brand voice that wasn't their own, gotten smart on an unfamiliar category fast enough to pitch it inside of a week, and turned around strong work on short notice without a fully scoped brief
• Direct experience supporting senior executives and developing communications for leadership, thought leadership, product launches, internal audiences, and external stakeholders is a plus
• Experience building communications strategies and managing projects from brief through execution and measurement
• A collaborative style and the ability to build trust quickly with partners across product, marketing, policy, legal, people, and other functions
• Practical fluency with AI tools and workflows, including using generative AI to support research, brainstorming, drafting, editing, audience adaptation, and communications planning, with sound judgment around accuracy, privacy, bias, confidentiality, and brand voice
• Experience supporting communications for a public company, including earnings cycles, quiet periods, and disclosure-sensitive language, is a strong plus
• Comfort managing several stakeholders with competing timelines, and the instinct to drive a project forward rather than wait for direction
• Fluency with media monitoring and coverage reporting, and a point of view on what's worth measuring

Rewards

Compensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create our total rewards package. Compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.

The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $100,000 to $115,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. The salary range will be determined by the candidate’s geographic location.

We expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With quarterly vesting, your first vest date will take place within 3 months of your start date.
