As a SCADA Engineer, you’ll help design, analyze, and deliver electrical substation projects for utility and power delivery clients - with exposure across the full breadth of substation engineering.\nAs a SCADA Engineer, you will develop and support supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, RTU integration, substation automation, and communication networks that help clients monitor and operate critical electrical infrastructure safely and reliably. We invest in early-career engineers and give them real work from the start.\nWhat you can expect:\nEmployee ownership (ESOP) - build equity in the firm as it grows\nBroad exposure across substation disciplines - physical design, P&C, studies, and field work - to help you find your path\nMentorship from senior engineers who review your work and help you grow\nFull-service EPCm exposure, from concept through startup, across a diverse client base\nCareer paths that grow with you - toward technical leadership, project management, or discipline leadership\nFlexible work arrangements where business needs allow\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, configure, and support SCADA, RTU, HMI, and automation systems for utility and substation projects.\n\nDevelop SCADA architecture, communication diagrams, I/O lists, point databases, and system integration documentation.\n\nDevelop and review wiring diagrams, control schematics, communication drawings, and network layouts.\n\nCoordinate with Protection & Controls engineers to integrate relay data, alarms, status points, and control functions into SCADA systems.\n\nSupport communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC-61850, and Ethernet-based industrial networks.\n\nPerform system testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning support.\n\nInterface directly with clients, vendors, and project teams to define system requirements and resolve technical issues.\n\nAssist with equipment specifications, procurement packages, technical evaluations, and construction support activities.\n\nParticipate in site visits, startup activities, troubleshooting efforts, and field investigations as required.\n\nEnsure all deliverables meet client requirements, industry standards, and Nexus quality expectations.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.\n3+ years of SCADA, automation, controls, power delivery, utility, or industrial systems experience.\n\nExperience with RTU configuration, control systems integration, or substation automation projects.\n\nExperience interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication drawings.\n\nKnowledge of SCADA and communication protocols including DNP3, Modbus, IEC-61850, or similar.\n\nFamiliarity with substation automation systems, relays, RTUs, HMIs, and communication networks.\n\nExperience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent design software.\n\nProficiency with Microsoft Office applications.\n\nStrong troubleshooting, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.\n\nAbility to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.\nPreferred Qualifications\nEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.\n\nExperience with SEL RTACs, SEL relays, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories equipment, GE, ABB, Siemens, or similar utility automation platforms.\n\nExperience supporting transmission or distribution utility clients.\n\nExperience with networking, cybersecurity, and industrial communication systems.\n\nCommissioning or startup experience.\n\nWork Environment & Physical Demands\nWork is performed in a hybrid environment that includes office, remote, and active project-site settings.
