Backend Developer - Java / Scala

As a Principal Scala/Java Engineer, you will set the technical vision and strategy, working alongside and mentoring a diverse and cross-functional team of engineers. You should be able to work autonomously, championing best practices; act as a force multiplier, guiding junior engineers; and possess a deep passion and drive for continuous learning, innovative problem-solving, suggesting, and pioneering the adoption of new technologies.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Java application development is required. Experience with Scala is a plus.
• Strong experience in distributed systems, application development, design, and leading complex systems architecture.
• Advanced experience with Java and relational databases is essential.
• Proficiency in AWS or any cloud, with strong knowledge of usage of AWS SDKs and libraries.
• Knowledge of container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• In-depth knowledge and experience implementing GitFlow, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, alerting, and logging with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpsGenie and/or PagerDuty.
• Proficiency in developing microservices applications and familiarity with protocols such as HTTP and gRPC is essential.
• Proficient in debugging and performance tuning large-scale Java and Big Data applications, using tools such as VisualVM, JProfiler, and remote debugging techniques.
• Understand and implement advanced object-orientated principles and functional programming principles.
• Implement good coding practices with thorough unit and integration testing, emphasising TDD.
• Commitment to following best practices for security, scalability, and performance.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in production environments.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and third-party vendors.
• Continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for automation, optimisation, and efficiency gains in infrastructure and deployment processes.
• Ability to document processes, procedures, and technical architectures for knowledge sharing and future reference.
• 4+ years of experience with designing distributed scalable architectures.
• 8-10 years of experience with Scala or Java; experience in upgrading, maintaining, and performance tuning large Scala/Java applications is required.
• Prior experience in a SaaS or high-growth tech-first product company.
• B. Tech from a Tier 1 college.
