This role is responsible for managing engineering activities across the project life cycle, from conceptual engineering through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and transition to operations.\nThe Project Engineer applies engineering project management principles to ensure engineered products are safe, constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget objectives. This position works closely with Project Managers, project controls, internal stakeholders, Architect/Engineer (AE) firms, subject matter experts, and contractors to drive engineering quality, mitigate risk, and support overall project success.\nCandidates will be hired at Project Engineer I, II, or III level depending on experience, technical depth, and leadership capability.\nCore Responsibilities (All Levels)\nPromotes and ensures a safe working environment in both office and field settings\n\nManages engineering scope and supports detailed design through all phases of the project life cycle\n\nApplies engineering project management practices during conceptual engineering, detailed design, constructability reviews, change control, testing, acceptance, and transition to operations\n\nSupports development and decomposition of product scope into a constructible project scope, including WBS definition, validation, and control\n\nEnsures engineering deliverables meet company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements\n\nMonitors engineering contractor and AE firm performance for scope, schedule, cost, and quality\n\nCoordinates engineering reviews, document control, and drawing reviews with internal stakeholders\n\nApplies product and project risk management techniques to reduce technical, schedule, and cost risk\n\nSupports project cost development, forecasting, and engineering input to capital estimates\n\nWorks closely with the Project Manager and project controls team to support schedule, cost, and change management\n\nEffectively communicates engineering status, issues, and performance metrics to project leadership\n\nUtilizes engineering and project management tools, PMIS, and performance dashboards to monitor progress\n\nAssists with RFIs, technical resolutions, and engineering issue close-out\n\nLevel Differentiation\nProject Engineer I\nRole Focus: Learning, technical execution support, and foundational project engineering\nApplies fundamental engineering principles and standard procedures under supervision\n\nSupports engineering document development, reviews, and coordination\n\nAssists with constructability reviews and design issue resolution\n\nDevelops working knowledge of PMI / PMBOK and company project management processes\n\nRequires close guidance from senior engineers or the Project Manager\n\nProject Engineer II\nRole Focus: Independent project engineering execution and coordination\nIndependently manages defined portions of engineering scope on assigned projects\n\nLeads coordination with AE firms and internal stakeholders for assigned deliverables\n\nEvaluates engineering options, technical risks, and recommends solutions\n\nManages engineering inputs to project cost, schedule, and risk reviews\n\nDemonstrates increasing leadership, communication, and decision-making capability\n\nProject Engineer III\nRole Focus: Senior technical leadership and complex engineering oversight\nProvides technical leadership for large, complex, or high-visibility power generation projects\n\nLeads and coordinates engineering activities across multiple disciplines and firms\n\nMentors and provides technical guidance to Project Engineer I and II staff\n\nServes as a key engineering advisor to Project Managers and senior stakeholders\n\nApplies advanced engineering judgment to optimize design, cost, constructability, and schedule\n\nDrives continuous improvement and engineering best practices across the organization\n\nRequired Qualifications\nProject Engineer I\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited university or international equivalent\n\nProject Engineer II\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited university or international equivalent\n\nMinimum 4-7 years of engineering experience in utility, construction, or industrial environments\n\nProject Engineer III\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited university or international equivalent\n\nMinimum 10+ years of engineering experience in utility-based or power generation environments\n\nAll Levels\nKnowledge of standard computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)\n\nProficiency in project management principles\n\nAbility to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nAbility to work in adverse field conditions, including elevation, weather, and industrial environments\n\nAbility to travel as required to support project goals\n\nValid in-state driver’s license upon hire\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with electric transmission, distribution, or power generation facilities\n\nExperience working at generating stations or major capital project organizations\n\nAdvanced knowledge of fossil, hydro, and/or renewable power generation systems\n\nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification or active pursuit\n\nExpressed interest or demonstrated potential for future project or people leadership roles\n\nPhysical Demands\nThis role requires periodic field presence at construction sites, including exposure to noise, weather, elevated platforms, confined spaces, and industrial environments.
