This role manages key phases of the project life cycle-planning, estimating, permitting, procurement, construction oversight, in-service facilitation, and close-out-while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.\nThe Project Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective project delivery. This role applies sound project management judgment and independently manages assigned projects while escalating significant risks or issues as appropriate. The position supports Engineering, New Business, Sales & Services, and Local Operations through strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder partnership.\nEssential Functions\nIndependently manages planning, estimating, permitting, scheduling, and risk analysis for assigned projects\n\nEstablishes and maintains project scope, schedule, cost baselines, and change management processes\n\nLeads material procurement, engineering services coordination, pipeline interconnects, land agreements, and reimbursements\n\nPrepares projects for bidding and supports contractor selection and contract administration\n\nMonitors field construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements\n\nProvides construction support for internal and external customers\n\nActively manages project budgets, forecasts, capital spend tracking, and invoice approvals\n\nEnsures projects are completed in a safe and reliable manner, within ±5% of approved cost estimates, on schedule, and without significant regulatory notices, violations, or citations\n\nCoordinates with project controls, inspectors, engineering, land services, and operations to resolve issues and manage dependencies\n\nBuilds and maintains effective relationships with contractors, municipalities, and local authorities\n\nCommunicates project status, risks, mitigation strategies, and performance metrics to stakeholders\n\nSupports Engineering, New Business, and Sales & Services by developing cost estimates and project feasibility input\n\nCollaborates with peers across NiSource companies and industry partners to promote cost-effective project execution and continuous improvement\n\nApplies local operations input into project planning and execution to support seamless turnover and long-term operability\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field or equivalent experience (minimum 9 years total experience)\n\n5+ years of experience managing construction-related projects\n\n3+ years of experience managing project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls\n\nWorking knowledge of operations support systems (e.g., WMS or similar tools)\n\nValid in-state driver’s license upon hire\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n3+ years of experience working directly with pipeline construction contractor\n\nWorking knowledge of local, state, and federal operating and construction codes\n\nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification (PMI)\n\nExperience supporting large, complex, or high-visibility infrastructure projects\n\nPhysical Demands\nThe preceding description is not intended to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities.
