If you enjoy working across languages and layers of the stack, and want your work to multiply the impact of every other team, this team is for you. \nThe Role \nWe are seeking a Senior Back End Software Engineer to design, build, and operate the foundational services that the rest of Nitro Engineering builds on. You will work across a polyglot codebase - Python, Go, Rust, and Java - and own services end to end, from specification and architecture through to deployment, observability, and production support on AWS. This is a role for a broad, systems-minded engineer who enjoys solving the hard shared problems once, and well, so that every product team benefits. \nWhat You’ll Be Doing \nDesigning, building, and operating scalable, production-grade shared services, internal APIs, and libraries used across Nitro's product teams \nTaking full ownership of services across the complete lifecycle: from technical spec and architecture to deployment, observability, and production support \nLeveraging agentic coding workflows and AI-assisted development tools to maximise development speed and quality \nWorking across multiple languages and runtimes - Python, Go, Rust, and Java - and choosing the right tool for each problem \nBuilding and improving the infrastructure, developer tooling, and CI/CD foundations that let other engineering teams ship faster and more safely \nDriving reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency across our AWS footprint \nDeveloping and maintaining robust automated test suites (unit, integration, and end-to-end) \nWorking closely with Engineering Managers, product teams, and peer engineers in a fast-paced Dublin/Porto team \nSharing knowledge, contributing to technical standards, and mentoring more junior engineers \nWhat We’re Looking For \n5+ years’ professional experience in backend software development \nStrong, hands-on experience in at least two of Python, Go, Rust, and Java, with the ability to work effectively across all of them \nDemonstrated experience with agentic coding workflows and AI-assisted development from spec to production \nSolid systems fundamentals: networking, concurrency, operating systems, memory and performance tuning \nExperience building and operating cloud-native services on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar) \nStrong DevOps mindset to work with SRE team building systems \nExperience designing and building REST and/or gRPC APIs, SDKs, or shared libraries consumed by other teams \nExperience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB, and Redis \nExperience with asynchronous and event-driven architectures: SQS, Kafka, AWS Lambda, Step Functions, or similar \nHands-on experience with CI/CD tooling, observability (metrics, logging, tracing), and modern DevOps practices \nStrong understanding of testing practices and quality engineering \nExcellent communication skills and experience working in a collaborative agile team \nComfortable working at pace in a dynamic, fast-moving product environment \nBonus Points For \nExperience in a platform, infrastructure, SRE, or developer-experience team supporting multiple product teams \nExperience building internal developer tooling, build systems, or CI/CD platforms at scale \nSecurity experience: IAM, secrets management, or authentication and authorisation services \nExperience building AI or LLM-powered production applications, or MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers \nExperience with PDF processing libraries or document manipulation at scale \nOpen source contributions in any of the languages above \n\nWhy Nitro? \nAlong with our regular benefits and programs (including health, dental, vision, and retirement as standard), we are also very proud to offer a few additional initiatives to future Nitronauts: \n\nHybrid Work \nOur team embraces the hybrid work model, appreciating its blend of flexibility and structure.
