You are an expert in your field and are ready to jump headfirst into the strange world of quantum sensing.\nIt’s ok if you don’t have all the skills yet to build a quantum sensor, because you'll work with a global team of experts to fill in the gaps. You may have come from a large corporation but the idea of working in a fast-paced, highly iterative, and integrated team is exciting.\nYour role\nWorking hand in hand with a cross-functional team, you’ll be responsible for driving and managing a research and development program in our lab. This is an exceptionally hands-on role requiring a broad skill set, including the design, integration, and operation of atomic quantum sensors.\nYou will be responsible for and deeply embedded in the end-to-end development and deployment of our sensors and will be engaged daily in tasks like:\n Provide technical guidance and directions to a team of physicists and engineers.\n Designing and prototyping optical, mechanical and electronics subsystems.\n Optimisation and ruggedisation of atomic sensors for practical applications.\n Atomic sensor integration, optimisation and deployment in real-world environments.\n Requirements\nIt’s not about specifically where you have come from nor what qualifications you have. What truly matters is that you are a fast learner and can demonstrate the following skillset:\nMinimum PhD in atomic, molecular or quantum physics\nFamiliarity with laser spectroscopy, laser-cooling and atom interferometry of atomic species\nAptitude towards programming and automation. Competence with Python for lab instrumentation, control systems and data analysis is preferred\nExpertise with ultra-high vacuum systems\nNarrow linewidth lasers and frequency stabilization\nExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment\nStrong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams\nThe ability to acquire within a reasonable timeframe the appropriate Australian government security clearance level is preferred.\nThe role is full-time and based in Melbourne, Australia.\nBenefits\n$120 - $160k AUD plus super, depending on experience of the applicant\nEmployee Share Options (ESOP) \nFlexible work hours: choose which hours you work to meet your work and lifestyle goals \nA bespoke relocation package to meet your needs including but not limited to flights, temporary accommodation, shipping expenses, family support and VISA sponsorship etc.\n18 weeks paid parental leave\nCareer development allowance\nNomad Atomics values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds.
