About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Operations Coordinator assists with planning and coordinating pool operations, includingtraining and supervising lifeguards, developing and executing staffing schedules, overseeing the facility and equipment operations, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring the pool is in compliance and operating under best demonstrated practices. This

position will maintain a safe environment that upholds the Trefethen Aquatic Center’s written standards, while ensuring that the facility remains a major part of a vibrant campus, including its facilities, programming, and the safety of all users.

Weekend, early morning, evening, and holiday work hours will be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree required with 3-5 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent

  • combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of best practices in Aquatic Facility management and programming.

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days).

  • Current First Aid for Public Safety Personnel certification (Title 22).

  • Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator (preferred).

  • Ability to navigate the American Red Cross SABA platform.

  • Demonstrated strength in ability to communicate, negotiate, and problem-solving skills necessary to successfully manage issues when resolving conflicts related to direct reports/members/others.

  • Must be able to perform duties of a physical nature, including standing, lifting, sitting, walking, and swimming.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Train and supervise student workers and part-time temporary staff.

  • Assist with scheduling the staff using When to Work software, and substitute when needed.

  • Weekly timekeeping review, experience with Workday preferred.

  • Assess Lifeguard performance through in-service training and ongoing drills.

  • Ability to identifyproblems, assess alternatives, render consistent and logical decisions.

  • Provide general customer service and cashiering; assist with signage, schedules and updating the website.

  • Assist with set-up, management, and coordination of special events (swim team practices and meets, water polo practices and games/tournaments, campus events, etc.).

  • Help plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate summer swim lesson programs.

  • Teach American Red Cross courses and provide certificates.

  • Work with staff to ensure student program support.

  • Manage conflicts and effectively negotiate resolutions.

  • Maintain safe work conditions and comply with established safety policies, practices, procedures, and requirements.

  • Establish and maintain an effective customer service orientation toward all campus users.

  • Conduct surveys as needed. Evaluate and recommend marketing and advertising venues that align with Northeastern University’s goals.

  • Support the implementation, review, and recommendations related to facility policies and procedures, including facility access, emergency action plans, and standard operating procedures.

  • Assist with social media, pool website, and online marketing.

  • Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships while working in a diverse and multicultural environment.

  • Remain abreast of developments in all aspects of aquatics by reading, attending conferences,workshops, trainings, and clinics.

  • Ensure the pool is in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in the University’s health and safety programs.

  • Participate in campus staff meetings and professional training, as appropriate.

  • Assume and perform other related duties as assigned
