About the Opportunity

Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Community Relations, the Director of Outreach and Programming will develop, coordinate, administer, and evaluate community programs and special projects conducted by the Office of City & Community Engagement (CCE) at Northeastern University. In collaboration with the Community Relations and Programs Manager and other CCE staff, this position will be an active and responsible contributor to our local and campus communities by fostering collaborative relationships and partnerships that connect, educate, and engage people and organizations throughout our network. The Director of Outreach and Programming will lead CCE’s programs and partnership initiatives with three focus areas: hosting residents and community groups on campus, managing small business and neighborhood association partnerships, and delivering programs and offerings open to the public, both on and off campus.

The position involves collaborating with various stakeholders and cultivating existing relationships to work towards Northeastern’s vision of becoming a model institution for community engagement. This position also works closely with CCE leadership to set and meet the department’s budget and program oriented goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in community/civic engagement, community development, program management and strategic planning for a higher education institution or nonprofit organization
  • Be idea-driven with the ability to take creative initiative and demonstrate follow- through
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with different personalities
  • Problem-solve and resolve conflicts and disputes in a professional manner
  • Be relationship-oriented and results-driven
  • Communicate effectively to various internal and external stakeholder
  • Possess the ability to handle confidential information in a sensitive manner
  • Have strong abilities in planning and running programs
  • Have strong abilities in organization, supervision, administration, and budget management
  • Willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Have working knowledge of the Boston community with special attention to Roxbury, Mission Hill, Fenway, and the South End

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and facilitate partnerships and programs that respond to the needs, interests, and concerns of the residents, businesses, and other community organizations surrounding Northeastern’s Boston campus.
  • Refine existing, and/or establish new systems, processes and tools for tracking, collecting and sharing the outcomes, measurements and knowledge that is generated by those programs and partnerships.
  • Oversee program creation and development, with a focus on establishing new and innovative pathways for internal and external collaboration.
  • Regularly attend relevant events and other engagement activities that foster deeper engagement with the local community and other stakeholders in the community engagement space.
  • Assist in developing an external identity for Northeastern’s community programs.
  • Assist in developing the outreach strategy for the Northeastern Crossing and future community-specific spaces on campus.
  • Support CCE staff in planning and implementing new & existing programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Expected Hiring Range:

$60,315.00 - $85,192.50
