This position will be located in San Diego, CA.\nThe qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Product Support organization.\nAs an intern, you’ll participate in a summer internship program to develop competencies in a variety of data science, machine learning, and predictive analytics specializations that may include:\nCollaborating closely with software engineers, analysts, and data scientists to understand data requirements and deliver robust, integrated solutions.\nArchitecting and developing custom, maintainable data science solutions from the ground up.\nBuilding high-performance statistical and machine learning tools to derive insights from complex data sets.\nPerforming deep data modeling and abstracting reusable patterns for long-term scalability.\nWriting modular, maintainable code and contributing to tests and documentation for data architectures, workflows, and processes.\nApplying and championing software engineering best practices in the data domain, including unit/integration testing, CI/CD automation (e.g., Git, Docker), and strong documentation.\nTuning and optimizing complex algorithms within an on-premise infrastructure for performance and reliability.\nBasic Qualifications:\nA candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:\nBe enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2027\nBe majoring in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree\nBe available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027 \nBe able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)\nPreferred Qualifications:\nHave an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25 out of 4.0 or higher \nPrevious internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular). \nRecent academic experience in machine learning, deep learning, software development, and/or data engineering\nStrong programming skills in Python and SQL\nExperience with C/C++\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools (e.g., Git, Docker)\nFamiliarity with libraries and frameworks such as SQLAlchemy, NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, and PyTorch\nAbility to troubleshoot and optimize complex data queries and workflows\nFamiliarity with big data concepts, machine learning pipelines, and MLOps\nExcellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize across the entire data stack\nIntern Pay Range\nUndergraduate degrees (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-time Master’s program): $21.50-$39.00\nMaster’s: $30.50-$48.00\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
