The position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.\nThe successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, work product ownership, and a culture of automation.\nEssential Responsibilities:\nApplies knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering as outlined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).\nEvaluates complex aviation systems and software designs, design requirements, support equipment, facilities, and operations to identify hazards and respective causal factors, categorize risk, establish safety requirements for assigned systems, and determine mitigating controls to reduce risk.\nIndependently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.\nCollaborates with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses.\nReviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516.\nReviews Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations.\nPerform safety analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and software safety analyses (Experience in AGILE development) in accordance with the JSSSEH.\nAbility to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers and work independently\nAbility to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards\nMust have an understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation\nAbility to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements\nBasic Qualifications:\nSystem SW Safety Engineer: Bachelor of science Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 2 years of experience, or a Master of science Degree in a STEM discipline\nPrincipal SW System Safety Engineer: Bachelor of science Degree in STEM a discipline and 5 years of experience, or a Master of science Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience.\nMust have an active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)\nMust have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.\nMust have experience in C++ and Python.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nBS in Software Engineering or Computer engineering\nFamiliarity with requirements tools such as DOORS, Cameo, CPLM, Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE and/or Confluence\nWorking knowledge of Military systems safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.\nWorking knowledge of flight test engineering, Software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering\nWorking knowledge of detect and avoid systems and associated process standards such as DO-365\nExperience in Hardware/Software Integration\nExperience in military aviation\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
