Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer to support Surface Mount Technology Manual Assembly for Space at our brand-new Space and Autoline Technology (SALT) facility in Elkridge Maryland.\nThe Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing organization. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment where they will interact with multiple disciplines. The Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer will act as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of manufacturing engineering on all program elements across the manufacturing plant (hardware/support/test).\nThe Sr. Principal Microelectronics Engineer has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:\nDesign and Engineering Support:\nEnsure the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.\nMaintain cognizance over technical activities within program IPTs and ensure horizontal integration of the best manufacturing engineering practices across the product line.\nContinually coordinate with cross-functional organizations to ensure successful program execution.\nMonitor production processes and initiates data-driven continuous improvement.\nRecommending product design improvements required to produce advanced microelectronics products.\nDocumenting state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for hardware manufacturing.\nParticipating in design producibility reviews for new products.\nFactory Support:\nUsing complex drawings and parts lists to develop assembly work instructions.\nApplying knowledge of electronics assembly to assist the build team.\nEnsuring the build team meets the requirements of J-STD-001, AS9100, internal requirements, and other relevant IPC/MIL-STDs.\nAdvising on developing and implementing assembly tooling and fixtures.\nSolving technical manufacturing problems (related to materials, designs, equipment and tooling, training and instructions) to support production.\nDeveloping rework and repair processes and instructions.\nMonitoring process yields, cost and schedule, recommending and implementing quality improvements to drive improved metrics.\nAssisting with the training of new personnel and participation in the design of operation training materials.\nCreating and documenting designs for product specific tooling.\nProcess Development:\nDeveloping and revising process documentation for complex circuit card assemblies.\nIdentifying gaps in process capabilities, potential process improvements, capacities, and new technologies for manufacturing.\nProviding ROI justification for process improvements.\nSpecifying, identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production.\nCreating and managing project plans (tasks, resources and schedules) for process development activities and new equipment implementation.\nCollaborating with the manufacturing team in using lean and continuous improvement tools (PDCA, DOE, SPC, TPM, TQM, etc.).\n Basic Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related STEM field and at least (8) years of relevant work experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area, or a master’s degree in engineering or a related STEM field and at least (6) years of relevant work experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area.\nFluency in MS Office software applications.\nExperience in a manufacturing environment.\nUS Citizenship is required.\n Preferred Qualifications:\nHands-on experience with microelectronics manufacturing specifically related to complex circuit card manufacturing and/or integration of electronic assemblies into next higher-level assemblies.\nExperience with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), 6 sigma concepts for process development and control.\nExperience using J-STD and MIL-STD requirements, including J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and other IPC standards in manufacturing. Certifications are a plus (CIT).\nExperience managing projects and/or leading people with strong organizational skills.\nExperience working on engineering full life-cycle projects from inception through launch.\nExperience working through root cause and corrective action activities.
