The position will be located in Palmdale, CA\nThe successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, work product ownership, and a culture of automation.\nEssential Responsibilities:\nApplies knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)\nDevelops and evaluates product systems, associated support equipment, and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems\nDevelops requirements and designs, assess implementations for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives\nReviews architecture, requirements, and interface artifacts for safety on complex hardware/software systems\nIndependently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards\nCollaborate with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses\nReviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516\nReviews Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations\nPerform software safety analysis (Experience in AGILE development)\nAbility to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers and work independently\nAble to work non-standard hours and multiple shifts on a part-time basis. Overtime, odd shifts, and weekend work will occasionally be required.\nBasic Qualifications:\nSystem Safety Engineer: Bachelor of science Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 2 years of experience, or a Master of science Degree in a STEM discipline\nPrincipal System Safety Engineer: Bachelor of science Degree in STEM a discipline and 5 years of experience, or a Master of science Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience.\nMust have an active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)\nMust have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.\nMust have experience with MIL-STD-882\nMust have experience with analyses like preliminary hazard analyses, function/system/subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses and/or safety assessment reports\nMust have experience analyzing, recommending, and driving safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards\nMust have experience developing, reviewing, updating and/or approving system safety artifacts and system safety requirements\nMust have experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/ software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation\nPreferred Qualifications:\nBS in Software Engineering or Computer engineering\nFamiliarity with requirements tools such as DOORS, Cameo, CPLM, Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE and/or Confluence\nWorking knowledge of Military systems safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.\nWorking knowledge of flight test engineering, Software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering\nWorking knowledge of detect and avoid systems and associated process standards such as DO-365\nExperience in Hardware/Software Integration\nSystem Software Safety Experience\nExperience in military aviation\nPrimary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
