Ready to join our quest for better?\n The Immediate Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.\nThe Immediate Care Technician supports physicians (MD) and advance practice providers (APP) by facilitating patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow; maintaining neat, clean and safe patient care areas; promoting patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner; safeguarding patient confidentiality.\nResponsibilities:\nDescription\nAssures efficient patient flow through the site:\nEscorts patient to exam room, identifies patient with 2 identifiers and prepares patient for examination.\nObtains accurate vital signs, per organization standards.\nDocuments reason for visit and updates/confirms, allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information.\nPromptly informs the MD/APP of any significant change in vital signs or acute symptoms.\nAnticipates/sets up equipment or supplies needed for visit.\nCleans and prepares exam room for next patient.\nResponds to needs to expedite visits and maintain flow of patients and prioritize tasks accordingly.\nAssists with referrals, transfers and discharge processes.\nAssists MD/APP with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols such as:\nElectrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen. collection and/or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing, wound care, splinting, as directed by MD/APP.\nCall-in or electronically send prescriptions as directed by the MD/APP.\nProvides high quality care by:\nPrepares and stocks all exam rooms in treatment area by following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.\nParticipates in environmental safety rounds.\nMaintains vaccine/medication inventory.\nEnsures medication cabinets are locked appropriately.\nMonitors and maintains equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines.\nAssists in ordering supplies and correctly disposes of all expired items.\nAdheres to office opening and closing procedures.\nFunctions as an integral part of the patient care team and promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner:Interacts in a professional, cooperative manner with other practice staff.\nAccepts and performs delegated responsibilities in a positive manner.\nOffers assistance to others.\nAttends and participates in staff meetings.\nCommunicates appropriately and effectively with patients and patient care team (in the office and on the phone).\n\nPerforms delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner (see specialty practice addendum).\nMay perform other duties as assigned.\n Required:\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.\nCandidate must have written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA)Accepted documentation:\nNew MA Graduates within 6 months from date of graduation from an MA Program must submit: a letter from the school or a letter from the certifying body\nNon-Certified MAs or new graduates past 6 months from date of graduation from an MA program must submit: a letter from the certifying body\n\nWithin first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts:Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)\nRegistered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT) or\nNational Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)\nCertified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)\nNationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) through the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP\n\nOR\nEmergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, or Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) certification OR Illinois EMT License\nCertification required upon hire.\n\nBasic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.\nCompletion of pre-employment competency exam.\nStrong computer skills.\n\nPreferred: \nExperience with electronic medical record.\nCollege degree or interest in health care field preferred.\nOne to two years of ambulatory care experience.\n Northwestern Medicine is an equal opportunity employer (disability, VETS) and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected status.\nBackground Check\nNorthwestern Medicine conducts a background check that includes criminal history on newly hired team members and, at times, internal transfers.
