UI/UX Designer

The Role

As a UI/UX Designer at Nous Research, you'll help define the future of human-AI interaction across Hermes Agent and Nous Portal. You'll design intuitive experiences for complex agent workflows, explore new interaction patterns for AI-native products, and contribute to the visual identity of one of the leading organizations in open-source AI.

You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and Marketing to create polished experiences that balance usability, performance, and thoughtful design. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving ambiguous design problems and wants to help invent the interfaces that define the next generation of AI products.

Responsibilities

• Design user experiences across Hermes Agent and Nous Portal spanning desktop, web, mobile, and terminal interfaces.

• Develop intuitive interaction patterns for AI agents, including multi-step workflows, tool usage, long-running tasks, and human-in-the-loop experiences.

• Contribute across the entire product design process, from user flows and information architecture to high-fidelity visual design and interaction details.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to design, prototype, and ship polished, performant user experiences.

• Create reusable design systems, components, and interaction patterns that improve consistency across products.

• Prototype concepts using modern design tools and, where appropriate, lightweight code or interactive prototypes.

• Support brand expression and art direction across product, marketing, documentation, and community experiences.

• Conduct user research and incorporate qualitative and quantitative feedback into product improvements.

• Help establish design principles and best practices for AI-native user experiences across the company.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of UI/UX or Product Design experience with a portfolio of shipped consumer, enterprise, or developer products.

• Strong craft across interaction design, visual design, typography, layout, and motion.

• Demonstrated ability to design thoughtful user experiences for complex workflows and ambiguous problem spaces.

• Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma and interactive prototyping platforms.

• Experience collaborating closely with engineers to bring high-quality designs into production.

• Strong product intuition and the ability to translate user needs into elegant design solutions.

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional product development.

• Comfort operating in a fast-moving startup environment with evolving product requirements.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience designing AI products, LLM applications, AI agents, or developer tools.

• Familiarity with terminal, CLI, desktop, browser extension, and multi-platform application design.

• Experience prototyping with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or similar technologies.

• Background contributing to design systems, branding, visual identity, or creative direction.

• Familiarity with open-source software communities and developer-focused products.

• Passion for exploring new interaction paradigms that make advanced AI systems more intuitive and effective.
